We had the good fortune of connecting with Aspen Wood and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aspen, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
By the end of my career, I hope to be an accomplished performer, singer and songwriter. My greatest goal is to inspire, help and touch as many people as possible. I write songs that I hope will empower people to stand up for themselves and others. I want to help people find their voice, walk their own path and know their worth.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I write and compose all my songs by myself and am very involved in my production. I’m really proud of becoming one of the youngest certified Ableton producers at age 15. I also released my debut EP, “KARMA” at age 15 and 3 singles at 14, “Locked In”, “Take It Easy”, and “I’ll Be There”. Another thing I’m very proud of is having played at the Whisky A GoGo twice at age 14. It was such an amazing feeling to see my name in lights at such an iconic venue! As soon as I realized that I love creating music, about three years ago, I began working diligently to be the best singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer that I could be. I was very lucky to have a mother who believed in me and supported me every step of the way. We’ve worked together to independently release and market my music, allowing me to have creative freedom. One of the biggest challenges for me has been the pandemic, which came at a time when I was just starting to get some traction. I had planned on 2020 being a year full of shows, networking and production. I tried to make the most of the past year by doing what I could to continue growing as an artist, despite the shutdown. I focused on releasing music, becoming a certified Ableton producer and developing my sound and brand. I shot and produced three music videos with my mom, even though we’d never done anything like that before! Though 2020 didn’t take me where I thought it would, I’m very, very grateful for everything I’ve learned and everything I’ve been able to do. This year, I will be completing and releasing my debut full-length album and a cover EP. I love performing, so that’s been the hardest thing to deal with. I miss it so much. I’m incredibly excited about the prospect that 2021 will see everything open up again, as covid-19 is neutralized, and all of my fellow musicians and I will once again be able to perform!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is easy. Universal Studios, of course, would be first on my list of things to do in LA! Then, we’d go to a show at the Whisky A GoGo, do some people watching on the Sunset Strip and go to one of the many cool restaurants in West Hollywood. We’d definitely have to go to breakfast at Porto’s in Burbank the next day! Finally, I’d take them on a hike at Griffith Park to the “Hollywood” sign and go shopping for vintage clothes on Melrose!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom, Donna Wood, who is my manager, booker, publicist, photographer, videographer and my hero.
