We had the good fortune of connecting with attorious renee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi attorious, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
curiosity is genuinely my first language, i’ve only ever known creation to answer back. as I believe answers without question are a violation to natural law, which leads me to the places where i can access gratitude. I wonder through deconstructing language to access the essence of linguistic vibration for myself first. It’s how i know to alchemize nature and nurture possibility, which i seek to teach as evolution is inevitable.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Today, I have become an alchemist. In my early youth, I started writing acrostic poems as a way to understand the people in my lives. I hoped if I could capture their energy in the letters of their name, I would more readily understand their actions. But I quickly found poetry the vehicle to which I could travel dimensions. I have morphed into a freestyler, a film maker, a magical practitioner, a philosopher, the poet, & the poem. At the essence of my being, I practice becoming. The arts have taught me that it is my birthright to work on my flexibility to improve my balance, to work on my balance to increase my. strength, and to work on my. strength to intensify my power. My power is my journey through this living experience. No better or worse than anyone else’s as we are just the universe experiencing itself from different perspectives.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If the kin were coming to visit me, I would take them to all the places I go to talk to god and be free. Id take them to the blades of grass in Joe Palia Park right behind the library after we got sandwiches and snacks from Wegmans up the street. We would write or paint while we discussed how this land shaped me. We are morally obligated to wise witness a sunrise on the edge of the Atlantic in the city of my birth Long Branch. If they are new to the east coast on the third week of the month, I would take them to EvoluCulture’s Dopen Mic in Newark, NJ. Be sure to pronounce it like NORK*, the natives are a little sensitive about it, which makes it my favorite city. I would take them for the best pizza at Gianni’s and the Best bagels. But most importantly, Ii would ensure they knew of the elusive Central Jersey boundaries, so they know everywhere else is just not like us.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
ode to gratitude:

by way of the worlds shifting attitudes: i adopt gratitude with purpose. there are many that have contributed to my elevation to bliss. i would like to thank EvoluCulture Ventures, Gamma Xi Phi, all of my professors in my undergrad and masters programs, my kin where i learned to tell a story and clan who listen to mine, respectively.
