Meet Audrey d’Erneville | Artist & Art Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Audrey d’Erneville and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Audrey, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I simply wouldn’t be where I am today if I hadn’t taken huge risks. In june 2019 I quit my last corporate job with barely any money saved up and no plan other than knowing I was unhappy and that I needed to make a change. I decided I had enough on a Friday, put in my 2 weeks the following Monday and went full time into freelancing. 3 years later I am still going at it and it has been the best decision I have ever made.
I believe that when your back is against the wall is when you can really surprise yourself. I love to take risks and to say yes to scary opportunities because that allows me to really see what I’m capable of. I need to get uncomfortable to push the best out of me, and when you have no room to fail you just make it happen. My motto is say yes, and figure it out after.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe that what sets me apart is my adaptability and my creativity. I am never afraid to say yes to a scary opportunity, and to fake it till I make it.
When I first started as a freelance Art Director, I got a lot of projects that I was not really qualified for but I would learn on the spot and find creative ways to deliver a successful result. If you’re confident that there’s nothing you cannot achieve, then you’ll always find a way.
I think the goal is finding the right balance between being confident enough in your skills, while being humble enough to never stop learning. “The moment you think you made it, is the moment you stop making it.”

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My ultimate favorite thing to do in LA is EAT. I’ve been to so many different cities in the world and very few places has a diversity of cultures like LA.
Here is my week plan in LA with some of my favorite spots to visit:
Monday: Breakfast at Grand central Market in Downtown, Walk around and visit some museums (the Broad, MOCA), Stop by a food truck for lunch, head over to the LINE Hotel for a sunset drink, dinner at the Factory Kitchen.
Tuesday: Breakfast at Millies in Silverlake, stroll around Sunset Blvd for some shopping and then spend the afternoon at Echo Park. Head over to Koreatown for dinner at Quarters Korean BBQ
Wednesday: Breakfast at Blue Daisy in Santa Monica, head over to the beach for the afternoon. Grab a bike and pedal over to venice beach for a burger at the Win-Dow. Drinks at sunset on the pier, Head to sawtelle/Japantown for Ramen for dinner
Thursday: Brunch at Malibu Farm Pier Cafe, visit of the Getty Villa & the Getty Museum, Dinner & drinks at Duke’s Malibu for the ocean view
Friday: Brunch in Sawtelle at Hermanito, Lunch at Ackee Bamboo in Leimert Park, walk around culver city and dinner, then spend the night at the 24h Wi Spa in koreatown

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my sisterhood, which is my ultimate support system. Wether they are childhood friends, or sisters that I met along the way I wouldn’t be able to achieve half of what I do without them.
But since we’re focusing on LA, I’d like to dedicate this specific shoutout to Sam Danan who is also an Artist & Art Director and have been my right hand and hype woman since the day we met in grad school.
She is one of the most talented people I know, being a creative director for a lot of your favorite brands, but the most incredible thing about her is how she supports ALL the people in her circle. She will always speak your name in rooms you aren’t in and will always have the right things to say to keep you motivated. Love you Sam!
