We had the good fortune of connecting with Audrey Lane and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Audrey, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
There are infinite ways to tell a story; and for me, this was the spark that set my creative technical journey in motion.
I started in photography, following in the footsteps of my father’s profession. Incapsulating a story in a single frame was an exquisite challenge, and I began to quest into the world of moving images. Videography and filmmaking captured my imagination and allowed me a medium to express and storytell on multiple dimensions of perception.
I teamed up with a musician and began to explore the realms of video projection mapping to give a visual context to the live musical performance. This was enthralling, and yet I yearned to be even more involved with the immersive storytelling experience.
This led me to the world of XR production for live performance, where I was also working as a producer at the leading agencies for real-time motion capture performances and live show design.
I decided to develop and invent a software system that took everything that I had learned from my visual storytelling journey, and wrap it into a platform that could build a world based on your performance stream a motion-captured avatar performer, and use this for a live XR performance integration in a 360 dome (or other projection abled venue).
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have an interesting path from where I started to where I am today. I excelled in school, with nearly a 4.0, then decided to get my GED and start working. I attended Evergreen College in Olympia WA, then decided to take things into my own hands after learning the ropes of entrepreneurial business and creating my first LLC and nonprofit businesses.
I learned more in the following years than I ever could have imagined by pursuing internships, direct mentorships, and workshops around the world by software development teams. Through these experiences, I was able to get acquainted with a global community workforce in my industry of choice that would guide my career outcome.
I have always been a creative technologist, but the fine print of its application has changed over the years. I started in the entertainment industry, doing technical production for companies like WAVE XR pioneering hardware and software systems that would broadcast the very first live XR performances, to working now in aerospace for Blue Origin where we integrate augmented and virtual reality for design and manufacturing reviews and beyond. I have been a part of pivotal moments that will dictate the future of spaceflight through applied usages of XR technology, and that is priceless.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For our week of adventure, I would start by taking you to the first-ever Espresso house in the PNW, located a ferry ride away from Seattle on Bainbridge Island. (We might even glimpse some orca whales on the journey across the Puget Sound)! From there, we would hike the trails in the Grand Forest and immerse in its moss-covered beauty.
The next day, I would take us on a tour at Blue Originn’s Headquarters (where Jeff Bezos can sometimes be spotted), where you can check out a scale model of the Blue Moon Lunar lander, and have a view of the actual manufacturing facility where the engines and capsules are being assembled in real-time.
For the final day, we would get my neighborhood favorite Vietnamese from Magnoia Pho which also features a rare delicacy of Durian foam coffee. (Seattle is all about it’s coffee).
After, I would bring you to my home office and let you try my new AR music mixing app, and fly around in my other app making VR artwork with AI prompts in real-time.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I couldn’t have been where I am today without the mentorship and leg-up that Laura Escude provided me. She believed in me and gave me the opportunity to assist and learn about real-time XR performance, and doing live show production.
