We had the good fortune of connecting with Audrey Roy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Audrey, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I spent years working for unappreciative people that had very unrealistic expectations of their employees. I was tired of living under constant stress to fulfill someone else’s dream. At my final corporate position, the team was unfair and unwilling to listen to me or my colleagues ideas. One day we went to lunch, took a shot of tequila, went back to the office and quit. It was terrifying yet exhilarating and a day I will never forget. At the time of quitting, I wasn’t even convinced I wanted to start by own business. Once I began connecting with my clients and hearing the feedback was when my company was naturally born. Looking back, owning my business was what I have always wanted. I wanted the freedom to explore my creative ideas and provide brands with deliverables that truly benefits them. Two years into my company and I can never look back.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own a full-service creative agency in the cannabis space called Hazy. What makes my company unique is that no one is currently doing what we do and that is the most exhilarating part about it. Although cannabis is legal in the state of California working with a federally illegal substance is extremely difficult. Getting to this point has been very tough and we still continue to face obstacles every single day. It being so difficult is also part of the reason why succeeding in this space is so rewarding and fun though. We get to create history every day and physically build an industry from the ground up. As legalization continues to rise, we are constantly bringing new ideas and professionalism to the space. I want the world to know that whatever you put your mind to is possible. No one can tell you you can’t and if you find the right team anything really is possible.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in Los Angeles there is never a dull moment. I absolutely love having people visit because there are endless activities, diverse communities, amazing meals and new experiences to be had. I am very passionate about food and wellness. I would definitely go hiking in Griffith Park, go to Smorgasburg, the Arts District of DTLA, Venice beach, and Malibu. My favorite place to eat and visit is Malibu is The Reel Inn so I would definitely be making a stop there and maybe spend a night in the magical Topanga Canyon.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate a shoutout to my father. He was always a mentor to me and taught me at a very young age the true value of a strong work ethic. It is something that stuck with me throughout all my previous jobs and has been a driving force to my dedication to being an entrepreneur. He passed away in May 2020 suddenly and my world came crashing down. He always used to tell me “no matter what happens in your life, you will always have work.” It has been one constant keeping me moving during the darkest days of my life. I keep pushing for him and I owe a lot of my success to his guidance. I know he’s still watching over me and so proud of what I have been able to accomplish in the past year without him,.
