We had the good fortune of connecting with Aurora Fox and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aurora, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important aspect of my success has definitely been throwing away expectations. I think a thing that trips up a lot of actors is obsessing over getting the role. Obsessing over the audition, over the impression on the casting director, obsessing over every choice they made in their performance. I used to overthink everything I did in an audition too, and it made acting so unejoyable- because I looked for the result instead of the process. I have learned to treat my auditions like a chance to perform, and do what I love! I don’t think of even getting the job. That mentality releases you of the disappointment if you do not book it- because you do it for yourself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Getting to where I am today, and where I want to be, has not been easy. I grew up in a very small, rural town in Alaska. There were almost no acting opportunities there, and I grew up knowing I wanted to perform but having no guidance. I didn’t know anybody who was even remotely involved in the performing arts, and there were no acting studios where I could take classes. But I knew I wanted to be an actress since I was seven years old. When I was eight, I auditioned for the very small local theatre in my town, and I knew I was in love since my first show. Getting to an acting school in NYC was a big journey, filled with a lot of rejections and learning curves. I believe that is a big part of my tenacity- I never took no for an answer, and every lack of opportunity filled me with the drive to create my own opportunities! Since I couldn’t take any acting classes growing up, I obsessively watched TV and movies for actresses who looked like me and took notes on what they did. I listened to actors’ interviews on Youtube to try and catch advice from them. I read every book I could get my hands on. To this day, I am blessed to live in a city with an abundance of opportunities to practice my craft- but I still focus on learning from those ahead of me- only now, it’s a lot easier on an iPhone than an old computer at my school library. Most recently, I’ve been lucky enough to get back to work since the pandemic- I’ve shot a TV Mini-Series and starred in an independent film, both of which will be coming out at the end of 2021.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am such a Brooklyn gal, I would definitely take them to the Brooklyn Bridge and take in the view. From there, drinks at Zombie Hut (delicious drinks and a backyard!), then pick up some sushi from Iron Chef house and have a picnic in Prospect Park. Then definitely hit up a comedy show! (Unless this is post-pandemic, then rush a Broadway show)!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to my supporters at my alma matter, The New School! Everyone there has truly helped me enjoy acting again and let me fail, time and time again.
