We had the good fortune of connecting with Austin Aleman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Austin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always loved being creative. When I first picked up a camera I never thought about making money, all I cared about was producing quality work like those who inspired me. As time went on, people would approach me with opportunities to make money filming videos, which led to me to creating Reealmedia.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I am working on a project, whether it’s photos or videos, my goal is to produce work that I am proud of. Work that 13 year old me would download from a blog, cut out of a magazine or rewind countless times. I’m not interested in hopping on the next trend to try and keep up with others in my field. Of course when working with a client, their satisfaction is my top priority, but I’ve been lucky enough to land clients who want to work with me for what I bring to the table. That is what I am most proud of.

My journey has been a long one so far, and I’d consider myself still in the beginning stages, but I believe most can achieve similar goals in a fraction of the time it has taken me. Like many other things you get out what you put in. I’m no business expert or video production guru.
I’m just trying to produce art that I’m proud of.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Sheesh! I’m pretty simple, so a good week out here in Sacramento would consist of

– Breakfast at Bacon & Butter
– Breakfast at The Morning Fork
– Lunch at Pizza Supreme Being
– A River Cats Game – OR – a Kings game, depending on what time of year it is
– Walking over to Tiger after the game for some drinks and amazing wings
– Checking out Cafe Colonial, you never know what band you might come across
– Catching a show at Harlows, Starlet Room or Ace Of Spades
– Stopping by The Iron Monkey Or Elysian Tattoo Gallery, to say what’s up. Maybe even get a tattoo if we’re up for it
– Spending some time at The Crocker Museum
– Going for a bike ride along the American river, every season offers a different kind of beauty
– Watching a movie at Tower Theater

Like I said, I like simple stuff. Who you’re with makes all the difference.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a big shoutout to my friend Angelo Madrigal. Not only did he contribute to putting me in positions to make money from my craft, he also served as a prime example of being patient, working hard, and staying consistent.
