We had the good fortune of connecting with Avi Dahan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Avi, how do you think about risk?
I think failing to pursue a path or objective that matters to you because it feels like a risk is a bigger risk than not pursuing that action at all. The idea goes back to the famous saying of “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” All of the success that has come to my life was a result of taking action, which may felt risky, but always ended up not being risky at all. For example, I took a risk pursuing a career in music which felt like my calling, which everyone around me said was a waste of time and a sure way to end up broke. However, ignoring the naysayers and pursuing that journey has led me to a fulfilling career and a prosperous one as well. Choosing the risk of pursuing the dream vs. the security of a unfulfilling life regardless of the money was one of the best decisions i’ve made. The key is to stay in alignment with your heart’s desire and calling and make decisions based on what you feel best fits YOU, not based on other people’s opinions, which may be suit THEM.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Before deciding to pursue music and entertainment law, I got my start on the creative side of the music business by playing in bands, throwing college events, DJing, and working at record labels. I feel grateful for that prior experience as it allowed me to keep my ear to the ground in discovering new music and understanding where culture and sound is heading. As a music lawyer, in addition to negotiating and closing deals, a big part of my job involves discovering talent early and helping them build a foundation around them, including a team comprised of a manager, agent, label, publisher, and business manager. My prior work experience and relationships gained allowed me to harness these skills early on in my career in order to add value to my clients.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d start off by taking them out to a night in LA, kicked off by some great sushi, most likley at Matsuhisa or Sushi Fumi. Then we’d head to the San Vicente Bungalows for cocktails, followed by a party or show at Winston House, a local favorite in Venice.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to thank my wife, Rena Dahan, who has always stuck by my side and my decisions regardless of how risky or daring they seemed, knowing that regardless of risk, the results would always end up being incredible.
