Meet Avril O’Sullivan | Bespoke Stationery Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Avril O’Sullivan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Avril, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I began my business after working in the corporate section for many years. After my children were born I wanted a more flexible working lifestyle to balance work and my family life. I had studied Art & Design when I was younger and always wanted to go back to doing something creative. When a friend asked me to design her wedding mass booklets the idea was then born for Couture Wedding Cards to design Bespoke Wedding Stationery for couples getting married.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Although I had an artistic background and love of design when I started out I didn’t have any experience with any drawing or design programs. so it was a frustrating time to overcome the challenges to learn this. I came across lots of hurdles and challenges, there were many days I wanted to give up but my drive was really strong to keep at it and eight years on I have a sucess small business and couldn’t be happier.

Designing unique and stylish wedding stationery is someting that I love doing and the couples that I meet make it all workwhile. I feel honoured to be part of one of the happiest and memorable times of peoples lives.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in beauiful coastal town of Cobh, in Cork, Ireland, Living by the water is amazing and I get to walk besides the sea every day. I love taking friends around Cobh who get to see it for the first time, you can get to see where the famous Titanic set sail, the town is steeped in history, a trip to Spike Island or Cobh Cathedral is a must or a tour on a self drive boat around the harbour and see the big cruise liners and beautiful scenery. The town has great cafes and restaurants to sample amazing food. You can also get to Cork City just twenty minutes drive away to sample the culture and delights of the City with so many things to see and do there, the list is endless.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m very lucky to a husband who has supported my business from the very begining. From technical advice to proof reading my projects, as well as working at his own job I genuinely couldn’t do what I’m doing with my business without his help.
