We had the good fortune of connecting with Badir McCleary and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Badir, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I’m a HUGE risk-taker. I believe that you have to be that way especially if you have high aspirations in your career. Chances make change (in a lot of ways) and if you’re not seizing opportunity by risking time, money, or yourself are you even in the game these days?
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
One of the things in my career that I have been most proud of is my ability to assess a situation and adapt. The world, and especially this art world) is forever changing and sometimes the original plan you had to win, fails. And sometimes, it just needs a little adjustment. Being able to recognize that has allowed me to be a crucial asset in the growth in thinking and behavior with artists and professionals in the business. I think having the opportunity to experience different facets of the business gave me the confidence I needed to pursue the career goals I have. And as I get closer, the challenges grow, but so do the rewards of good results. One of the biggest things I’ve learned is patience and a “double look” decision-making process where you look past what you see into what you don’t. That’s usually where the solution lies.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am an art nerd so I’m sure anyone visiting the city that’s not an art junkie like me would be pretty overrun within the hour. (laughs). go to tons of artists studios, museum and gallery shows (Covid permitting) and spends a lot of time in the car (mostly because of the wild LA Traffic). My life these days is more silent as I tend to focus more on the ideas that I am trying to cultivate and execute into working realities. So yeah, Art and Silence, sounds fun right? lol Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and Foremost, I always stop and give thanks to God. God is a huge part of my life and nothing happens without the blessings from above. After God, I always look to my mother because she has been a huge supporting force in my life since the beginning. She is always there to offer words of wisdom and/or care when needed and can always convince me to see the best in a situation. Last but definitely not least, I have to give love to my family and friends that keep me motivated through the creativity and hard work that they exude in their own careers. When you have people striving and reaching goals around you it only inspires you to step the game up that much more.
