We had the good fortune of connecting with Bayne Gibby and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bayne, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I always knew I wanted to become an actor. I entered A local summer talent show around age 3. I sang The Oscar Meyer Wiener commercial jingle and won the Honorable Mention Award, which was a paper plate covered in tin foil. I was sort of hooked at that moment and never looked back.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m what’s considered a “working actor” which means I act full time and make my living as an actor, but you don’t know my name. I’ve been stopped many times by people who are convinced we went to school or camp together. When I tell them they may have seen me on television, they often wave their hand and say: No, it’s not that. It was definitely camp. I never went to camp.

I love being an actor. I love being on sets– the collaboration and the communal aspect of it is incredibly exciting. I’ve been part of some really amazing things, like the film Lady Bird (dir. Greta Gerwig) and the television series Enlightened (HBO) among many others. I’m hoping there’s another fantastic series out there waiting for me to step into of it. That’s ideally how I’d like to spend the few years.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A whirlwind tour of Los Angeles would include my favorite dinner spot Il Capriccio on Vermont Avenue, followed by Jeni’s Ice cream on Hillhurst, a block away in Los Feliz. We’d definitely do a drive up the PCH to grab some seafood at a lobster shack, then have a long sit on the beach, and dip our feet in the water. We’d play some tennis in Griffith Park, and in this fantasy scenario I would win 6-0. It’s been a rough two years not being able to see friends and family. Having the luxury of time with a friend to sit outside at Birds on Franklin with a nice cold beverage and have a few laughs sounds like the perfect Los Angeles afternoon to me.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom has always nurtured my creativity. As a creative person herself, she encouraged me to lean into doing what I loved. A lot of parents fear their children choosing a creative path and for good reason– there is so much instability, stress and heartbreak. But, I think my mom recognized that nothing was going to dissuade me, so she was my biggest champion– even when things looked bleak and a more logical choice may have been to pivot. She supported my goals 100%.
