We had the good fortune of connecting with Becca Heringer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Becca, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Art has always been my go-to source for therapy and healing. Art is everywhere, offering constant inspiration and positive creative energy. Since childhood I have gravitated toward various creative mediums. Making my art is not only healing for me, but it is so gratifying to hear how my artwork inspires others to feel positive and happy. I am really thankful that my love and passion for art has been able to become a practical career. One of my favorite quotes is “Love you what you do, do what you love.”
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art aesthetic is recognized by its bold colors, composition, and playfulness. I have combined my fine art with digital drawing. It’s exciting seeing my art become a lifestyle brand. It makes me happy to see people display my art on their walls as well as wearing my painted designs in the streets. It makes me happy when they let me know how much joy they get from them. I am most excited to see how much I’ve grown in the last few years. To be unique, it’s important to have confidence in what you are creating. I like to keep it fresh and find inspiration in unexpected places. My art career has been developing through networking, collaborations, and events. My brand has evolved slowly, but surely. Though I do have physical challenges which set me apart, I don’t allow them to define me. My differences and challenges have helped me grow as an artist. My passion for art and drive keeps me motivated for future projects.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would enjoy taking my friends to vintage stores, museums/galleries, comedy shows, parks, and to all of my favorite New York City restaurants. Vintage shopping is always fun because I always find unique and one-of-a-kind treasures. I love 2nd Street, Beacon’s Closet, The Niche Shop and so many more! I’ve always been a fan of exploring modern art museums and galleries. I love visiting the Whitney Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the New Museum, and the Guggenheim. It’s always fun gallery-going to all the West Chelsea galleries. I was fascinated by the recent digital installation of The Van Gogh Experience. I love seasonal art shows such as The Affordable Art Show and Art on Paper. Some of my favorite New York restaurants are American Bar, Ruby’s and Via Quadronno. You can never go wrong with Anita La Mamma Del Gelato for icecream. For the best rainbow cookies go downtown to Little Italy to Caffe Roma. Over the years, I have found the best coffee and places to work (and sketch) such as Ralph’s Coffee, Hutch and Waldo, Sunday to Sunday and so many more! I think it’s important to explore every area of New York City, where you can find diverse neighborhoods that represent every unique culture. As a born and raised New Yorker I like to keep it fresh, always exploring as if I am tourist.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom has always been my inspiration and mentor. She has encouraged me to pursue art, and is truly is my greatest cheerleader. She is hardworking, a super talented artist, and has always been a problem solver. My mom is someone who was always passionate about art in its many forms. Her career included several art related fields such art representative, showroom fashion sales, and photography assistant. When I was a child, my mother was a middle school art teacher, which was the most gratifying point in her career. She went back to teaching because it offered her the time to be a super-involved mom. To this day, my mom motivates me to work harder. Her love and dedication has been so helpful. Presently, my mom has been working alongside with me at my art shows, art events and sidewalk shows. My mom has amazing people skills, and is truly the best sales person.
