Meet Beccy Riveiro | Musician & Writer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Beccy Riveiro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Beccy, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued a creative career in order to be able to continue playing. I have a playful, infantile streak, that likes to be entertained. As adults, we’re supposed to stop playing and focus on work and chores only. Being able to thrive in a creative field allows me to have a playful approach towards my work, while also having an outlet to deal with issues beyond my understanding. I also feel the urge to express myself creatively. Another important aspect is that I want to spread a message, and I feel that for now music is the best tool for me to bring my message across.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Rose Rage is my solo project and soundwise it’s a noisy Riot Grrrl Grunge-Punk project. I feel my influences are all over the place. On my next album, that I’m currently working on, I want to let these different influences shine through more. I guess the message is to empower other female identifying individuals around me to express themselves creatively.
I write the songs and then usually find musicians to perform with. The most fun about being in a band to me are writing, recording and playing live. However, there are many steps that are not visible to the listener. I needed to take a break from booking and playing shows, as I felt a bit overwhelmed after organizing everything from social media, finding bandmates, to booking rehearsal places and shows. It feels really amazing to be able to focus entirely on writing new music these days, and I’m enjoying it lots. I also shifted my creative energy towards other projects, and I have been generally writing more. I’ve recently written a script for a Horror short, that I would like to actualize soon. At the same time, I consider myself grateful about all the amazing musicians, music lovers, bookers and people in the scene I have met along the way so far.
It’s so sick that these days you don’t really need a label or big budgets to create something, so that making music is more accessible than ever. I think today’s access to technology has paved the way for a new wave of DIY musicians who wouldn’t have had the same resources 20 years ago.
I feel what I have learned along the way is that you can’t squeeze out something that’s already fully squeezed, and that it’s therefore very crucial to know when to pull the brakes and jump off the Punk Rock carousel for a bit.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have lots of love for the city. In comparison to many other cities, it’s really vibrant and rich in energy. Even though I think each neighborhood has its very own charm, there are some places, that I like to spend more time in than others.
NEIGHBORHOODS:
I love Los Feliz, Silver Lake, Echo Park, Chinatown and Highland Park. It’s fun to just walk around, grab a drink, roam thrift stores and kick back with a friend.
When people think of LA they often think of Venice Beach, so I guess it’s worth checking out when you’re in the city for only a week. If you miss San Francisco’s Victorians, Angelino Heights should be on your list of places to visit.
Lynch fans shouldn’t miss out on driving up all the way to Mulholland Drive and have a Kombucha to talk about the meaning of life while taking the view in.
PARKS AND CEMETERIES:
I love parks, and LA is full of parks and recreational areas. As I also really like cemeteries, I will also add them here as well.
I really love spending time at Echo Park Lake, the Silver Lake Reservoir, Griffith Park Observatory, Barnsdall Art Park and Los Angeles State Historic Park. My favorite cemeteries are Hollywood Forever and Evergreen Memorial Park.
NIGHTLIFE:
As I love Rock music I prefer checking out gigs and going to Rock parties instead of going to EDM gigs.
A cute bar with great music is Cha Cha lounge in Silverlake. Club Blue Monday at Boardners is fun, and so are the parties at Grand star Jazz Club on Broadway. Catching a show at Non Plus Ultra or The Smell should also be on your list of things to do to catch a glimpse of the local music scene.
SHOPS AND MISCELLANEOUS:
Barcade in Highland Park is a fun place to visit on a rainy afternoon, as it’s stuffed with old-fashioned arcade games as well as cozy sitting options.
If you’re fond of karaoke I’d send you to brass monkey.
The philosophical research society is an overall impressive building and a must for everyone connected to their spiritual self.
Soap plant/ Wacko is the ultimate weird kid shopping fantasy come true.
Saint Vincent de Paul is one of my favorite thrift shops in L.A. and worth checking out.
The last bookstore is a massive bookstore with fair prices. It’s close to Cecil Hotel, which is apparently haunted and still functions as short time accommodation.
No music lover should leave the city before setting foot into Amoeba Records, as it’s a great place to score anything music related.
IN CASE THERE’S ANY TIME LEFT:
Visit LACMA and other contemporary art museums, as I feel that LA has outstanding contemporary art.
Go on a day trip to Santa Monica and check out the Pier and visit the stunning Getty Villa on your way there.
Check out Atwater Village for some hours!
If you feel like breathing in some bling, spend time in WeHo.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Here’s a shoutout to everyone who has constantly believed in my band “Rose Rage” and who has shown us support from day one. My shoutout also goes out to Quynn from Junk! Punk shows and to Spenser from Clear Vision Collective, who helped me set up two awesome shows in LA earlier this year and whom I consider to not only be amazing show organizers, but also valuable wonderful friends.
Another shoutout goes to my kick ass bandmates Taylor and Eliana, who put in immense efforts to learn our set within the shortest time. Eliana is not just an amazing bassist, but also an incredible filmmaker.
And my shoutout goes last but not least to my beloved friends of course, whom I owe to who I’m today. Marisa Llamas, who is not just extremely charming, but also funny and fashionable and a stellar actor. Carlo Chavez for all those nights dancing at Goth parties and for more nights to come, to Lauren Wood for always believing in my creative potential and for showing me nothing but support and love, to Juno from “No Mxn’s Land LA” for being not just a critical ally but also a fun friend and last but not least to Liz Vazquez, who is an amazing person and also an insanely talented artist.
