Meet Becktoria | Singer & Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Becktoria and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Becktoria, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Singing, songwriting, acting and dancing is how I express my emotions and feelings; it’s a form of therapy and letting go of any unresolved personal trauma for me.
Since childhood, I had always loved music and drama, starting with playing the piano and singing. As a singer, I was classically trained from age 11 and also took ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall music exams in flute, violin, singing and drums as well as LAMDA exams in Acting Monologue and Public Speaking. I was also in several school plays throughout boarding schools and university.
I remember my mum saying how I would tap my feet as a baby when music started playing. I had some dance training when I was young but only in my 30s, after my spiritual awakening, I felt free and became the dancer that I never knew I would be.
I started my career in entertainment as a model and beauty pageant titles holder in 2007. In 2015, I pursued acting and singing professionally after graduating with a Master’s of Fine Arts degree.
Aside from these creative outlets, my hobbies include cooking, inventing new dishes, painting, creating fire glass art, fashion design and styling clothes as well as producing music, directing and creating music videos and social media content. Sports have also been a huge part of my life, having played competitively in 10 sport teams in addition to 15+ other sports/workouts I do as hobbies. I think creativity has always been a part of who I am and how I identify myself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It definitely has not been an easy journey to say the least. With a lot of different types of step backs and challenges I’ve had to overcome, I still tried my best to stay positive and to keep persevering. I think the more emotional challenges I face, the more I get inspired to write songs.
Since 2015, I’ve released several singles, EPs and albums. Most recently, I’ve released an EP titled “Goodbye & Hello” which has been my favourite collection of songs to date. One of the singles “I Like It Like That” received numerous radio play and charted on Mediabase 200 as well as several other charts. I currently have over 4.34 Million views on Youtube and 1.33 Million streams on Soundcloud. One of my cover songs “Faded” recently had over 38 Million Streams on social media. My latest collaboration song “One Love” got signed to “Because Music” label and Smilax Publishing in Europe.
One of the projects I was really excited to be a part of was being a judge on a new show called “The Singer’s Choice”. I love how the show gives opportunity to showcase the works of independent artists as well as a step-by-step guide to help them thrive in the music industry. I also have an upcoming project that I’m thrilled to be a part of. I will be a featured artist on an upcoming DMX album, produced by one of the biggest DJs in the world. I can’t reveal much now but I’m definitely looking forward to creating a new type of art and evolving as an artist.
My motto in life is “Be Inspired to Inspire”. I think you really have to experience some sort of inspiration to understand how to inspire others. After my spiritual awakening in 2019, I found my happiness and peace after battling depression for over a decade. Whether it’s writing lyrics to a song or bringing positive views on mental health awareness on social media, I hope to inspire others to find their own versions of happiness, self love and self acceptance.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have loved living in Los Angeles for the past 11 years. There is such a diverse culture and beautiful community as well as many fun activities and events to go to. Where I take my friends to some of my favourite spots in LA would depend on what their interests are. Some of the things I love to do would be a nice stroll on the many beaches LA has to offer as well as the farmer’s markets and night markets if they are foodies like I am. From upscale fine dining to hole in the walls to food trucks, LA has so many diverse cuisines and amazing food. I also love going to the arcade games, music festivals and road trips along the Pacific coast route.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There have been a few people who have inspired me in my lifetime. Most recently, my best friend, Tim, has been an inspiration in my life who has always motivated me to pursue my dreams and have been there for me through the ups and downs. A kind and generous soul, Tim is also a great sports writer for the Bleacher Report. I’m very grateful that he’s been a part of my journey in life.
