We had the good fortune of connecting with Bella Baskin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bella, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My idea for Bless It Bag seemed to be something that could fill a void or a need for human connection. Now that moment where a human being is standing at your car door asking for help is no longer an awkward moment, instead it can be an opportunity to be your best self. A self that cares about other people and does your part to be of service. The best moment of my day is when I am not thinking about myself.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Bless It Bag cuts out the middle man and allows the donor to benefit by giving directly to the homeless person in need. Instead of most charities where people donate money and they aren’t sure where that money is going. Instead the buyer is purchasing a Bless It Bag filled with 26 basic necessities for $15 that will improve the quality of life of the person experiencing homelessness. Our most exciting accomplishments have been our billboard on Sunset Blvd., our newspaper article in the Sunday paper of the LA Times, our TV interviews with LA Times Today and Spectrum News Channel 1, and our recent collaboration with Blac Chyna, in which her and myself, Bella Baskin were interviewed by Access Hollywood Online. My biggest challenge was just figuring out how to become a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my family for supporting my vision. My 99-year old nana Shirley Familian whose first husband and brother founded Baskin Robbins has always been the biggest supporter of all my dreams from sending me CalArts for art school to giving me the donation that allowed me to start Bless It Bag.
