We had the good fortune of connecting with Bella Foxx and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bella, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking is absolutely ESSENTIAL if you want to fulfill your dreams! If it weren’t for risk taking I’d be working as a cocktail waitress the rest of my life or clocking in from 9-5 fulfilling someone else’s dream! Taking risks has changed my life completely. It’s the only way I’ve been able to achieve everything I have. If I wouldn’t have taken risks being the Official XFL Dj for the Los Angeles WildCats wouldn’t be possible, performing on Jimmy Kimmel with Yo Gotti wouldn’t have been possible, traveling the world would not have been possible! I’m telling you, believing in yourself and taking a leap of faith is key!!!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a professional DJ and have been for almost 10 years. I’d have to say although I’ve accomplished a lot, I’m most proud of staying true to myself. I feel like that’s a very challenging to do, especially in this industry. I see and understand there’s tons of other ways to “make it” but staying true to myself is most important and I honestly feel like I’ve done that. This journey has not been easy but what is? Your going to face obstacles in anything you do but it’s how you overcome them…and believe me it’s so much more rewarding when you do overcome them. I believe I got where I am by taking risks and believing in myself mostly. I know it’s easier said than done but you have to. Listen, when you don’t know where your next check is coming from it’s scary I get it, but you have to believe in yourself enough to know your going to make it happen and that your completely capable. Have you ever heard the saying, “If your dream doesn’t scare you, it’s not big enough,” well I kinda live by that! Do it afraid!!! I got to where I am by doing it afraid! I remember thinking, “how in the world am I going to buy all of the expensive equipment I need” I remember asking myself “how will I ever get to work with for the top companies and top artists?” Guess what I kept believing, I kept manifesting, I kept taking steps toward my dream and eventually it happened and it continues to happen because I’m still dreaming!!!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would do some thrifting for sure all over LA at some cool spots I’ve discovered over time after that we’d probably go to an awesome plant shop in Long Beach called The Hangout! We would definitely go to some of my favorite restaurants in LA including Let’s Sea Bag and Roll, Orleans and York, Plan Check, and when we’re feeling really fancy we’d go to Crustacean! We’d also do some record pulling at some of my favorite record stores including The Record Parlour and Fingerprints! In my opinion laid back and easy spots are where it’s at. I love little intimate places with live music and great energy!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout definitely goes to my mentor/friend because without him I wouldn’t be where I am today! His name is Cullen Grant a.k.a DJ Mista C. He literally took me under his wing and taught me everything he knows about being a DJ. He’s been so supportive throughout my entire career and always assures me he’s got my back! He’s truly one of a kind! We need more people like him…more givers and not takers! That’s why when I can help…I do!
