We had the good fortune of connecting with Bella R. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bella, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was that I had nothing to lose and only everything to gain. I have always had an interest in art and most creative outlets since I was a kid, and it’s something that stuck with me my whole life. As I grew older, (mostly during college) I also started to find interest in business and marketing. Doing something where both of those interests went hand in hand was a dream to me! Once it was established that I had a true passion for this career path it just made sense for me to pursue it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a nail tech, I think what sets me apart from others is my artistic ability and how I put sets together. A lot of times I come up with my own designs. Normally it just comes to me in the moment. I hardly will practice a design anymore, i’ll just do it on the spot but it took years to get to this point of confidence! I also have clients who come in with mood boards, sometimes over 10 different sets that they see floating around on instagram or pinterest, even objects with specific colors that they want me to replicate on a tiny nail. Somehow, I always make it happen. The beauty of nail inspo is getting to create my own interpretation of anything they come in wanting and adding my own signature style. If someone wants a specific set they’ll see my art and tell me they knew out of everyone around that I could do it and thats why they came to me. I am proud to say thats what i’m known for in my hometown and excited to be in the process of expanding now in a new state as well.

I got where I am today professionally by putting in so much time and effort, but mostly genuinely having a passion for this career. I think its so easy for someone to see what I do and THINK its a simple way to success or a quick dollar, but so much goes into it. I think so many people underestimate nail techs. Running a business as a one woman show has its obstacles but I wouldnt trade what I do for anything. I really believe you need to love and have a true passion to dedicate as much time and effort into anything you do to make it look this easy!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to recognize my family and my clientele for always supporting me and making me feel valued for all of my dedication and hard work. Having a strong support system is a huge key to success and i’m very thankful to have always experienced nothing less than the best. I would also like to acknowledge how supportive the nail community is and how encouraging it can be to have friends with the same passion as you all around the world to relate to and support you. This industry is truly one of a kind.
