Meet Benjamin Abiola: Multi-Hyphenate Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Benjamin Abiola and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Benjamin, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Creating! Creating gives me the power to build a seat and table for myself.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I’m a calculated risk taker who always bets on himself, I burned my boats and embarked on my journey to not only make it in Hollywood but to make an Impact. I’m excited for 2021, I’ve been blessed with some great opportunities and I’m looking forward to rising to the occasion. Nothing comes easy, all we know is the work! Discipline, dedication, and setting goals. In the early stages of my career I had to balance creating content, auditioning and find a way to pay bills. I started out doing audience work and the occasional background jobs until I booked a Motion Capture/Voice Acting gig in 2019 with RYOT & Verizon Media. Since then I’ve been blessed to be able to create freely and grow my social following across multiple platforms, whilst continuing to book and add on to my resume. Realizing that nobody is coming to save you is an important lesson. Even when you have a-lot on your plate, don’t forget you asked to eat! Don’t stress over what you can’t control. I hope to Inspire others to create, and not wait for validity or permission to make your art. To be a voice for those who are in the same position as me, TALENTED and HUNGRY. The right opportunity will come along, until then, keep working. Don’t Wait Create is a digital production company that independently challenges the status quo. In lieu of waiting on industry validation, D.W.C writes and produces original films, commercials, and sketches. Through Don’t Wait Create, artists on both sides of the lens are able to collaborate to produce high quality, reel worthy content. My love for creating content grew exponentially since I moved to California. I never imagined myself quitting my corporate job to actively chase a passion that I’ve always had in me, yet here I am working towards those goals. My focus has been to create digital content with the resources we have readily available. We create and show those in positions of power why working with us is beneficial.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oweee so you want The Abiola Experience? Alright, I can take you there! Let’s kick it off on a Friday, we’d go Jet Ski-ing at my favorite spot in Oxnard, then hit up Ventura BBQ afterwards. Saturday spend time at the beach, we’d electric scooter ride from Santa Monica to Venice, and end the night on Hollywood blvd and bar hop. Sunday we’d start the day with Yoga at L.A, High Memorial Park, followed by brunch at My Two Cents L..A. a black owned restaurant, ending the evening at Leimert Park. Throughout the week, we’d hike at Runyon Canyon, Explore Downtown On Bicycles, hit up Taco Tuesday at the best Food Trucks, attend an outdoor movie screening, joy ride down sunset and Mulholland drive. But only if I really like you, cause being a tour guide is exhausting.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The motivation and support from family and friends has guided me to where I am in life. Shoutout to my team for always holding me accountable and pushing me forward. To all the creatives I’ve worked with on this journey, for trusting my vision and trusting me with their time. Before moving to L.A. in 2016 to start this journey, I found myself rewatching a viral clip from Steve Harvey in which he discussed taking a leap of faith, JUMPING to be successful. My full circle moment came when I was getting paid to sit in the audience of the Steve Harvey show and hearing him preach those same words as a person who already jumped! The Four Agreements and The Alchemist are two books I picked up early in my journey that hold value.
