We had the good fortune of connecting with Benjamin Shiloah and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Benjamin, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I wanted to pursue a creative career because ive always had this idea in my head that a 9-5 was just not it. I didn’t necessarily know that i wanted to be involved in music from a very young age but all that changed once i started djing and producing when I was 16. I heard Dubstep for the first time and my body reacted in a way i’ve never felt before, it literally melted my brain, I couldn’t think straight at all. it was the first time my whole world had seemed to be contained within one medium. it was in that moment i knew i wanted to be apart of this amazing EDM world, I wanted to give back to the community what it has given me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One thing i feel that sets me a apart from other artist is my sound, Ive spent countless hours developing my sound design techniques to be able to keep evolving my style and sound. I’m really excited about my new music because im now shifting a focus on a more of a fusion sound. I’ve always had a love for metal and dubstep and now i am developing my interpretation of the two together. This path has definitely not been easy, the countless friends lost over my constant decisions to stay in and work on my craft rather than go out and party. Moving across the country from new york to la which has been a wild ride within itself. It was my first time being away from home and i was in a completely different environment which took some time to get used to. The list goes on and on. I always knew if i’m gonna do this im gonna have to full send it and never look back. The biggest thing i’ve learned from my journey so far is don’t settle your happiness for others, be true to yourself and do what you really want to do. Not everyone will understand or be with you along the ride, but know that in the end the sacrifices made will always be worth it. I really want people to look my brand and my music and be able to escape in their emotions, I want to give people an environment where they feel they can just exist, no worries, no thoughts, just being present. That is what music has always given me and that all I can hope to give back.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
some of my favorite spots in Los Angeles are The Brickyard Pub, Finney’s, and the 1720 venue. Brickyard has good drinks and pool tables, Finney’s has great food, and 1720 is a venue I frequently visit.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shoutout to my brothers Micky and Teddy Shiloah, they are the ones who brought me to my music journey. Teddy has been making music for as long as i can remember, and everyday as a kid I would wake up to the sound of him playing piano and singing. We always had jam sessions together with me on the drums and him on guitar. We also had what we called “Music Buddy” sessions where we would sit and listen to all different genres of music for hours. Micky has been making music as well as acting since he was a child. He used to round up me and my brothers to create these crazy energetic music videos of us being goofballs. He has also seen success within his own career and seeing that has given me so much motivation to keep going. They both are still my go to people for when I need feedback on a project im working on. I feel that being surrounded by other creatives from birth has had the biggest impact on my life journey of being a musician and DJ.
