We had the good fortune of connecting with Bete Agonafer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bete, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After over 19 years of leading clients on a journey into home ownership, I started to gradually become more curious and drawn to the “Inside”. I began envisioning how to make a house more than an abode, given this busy and often times frightening world we live can lack serenity and certainly doesn’t encourage it at all times. So, I made a decision to create a home and lifestyle brand that’s sole purpose was to usher in intentional living. My goal is for each of our products to serve as an altar to one’s self, bringing a sacredness back into our daily lives – and us back to ourself.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I use my passion for living beautifully to create new designs and resurrect beauty from traditional Ethiopian culture. My intention is for each of our products to serve as an altar to one’s self, bringing a sacredness back into our daily lives.

A major component of Addis VIV’s identity, and what I am the most excited about, is the collaborations we are developing with likeminded, intentional individuals and organizations that serve under-represented communities. We believe “ Together…we are HOME”.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
LA is so big that you have to have favorite spots in each neighborhood…

For instance… Westside cappucinos and breakfast would be Superba on Lincoln Blvd in Mar Vista or Playa Provisions in Playa Del Rey. But before this we’d do a 15 mile bike ride from Marina Del Rey to Manhattan Beach

Next day we would go to Larchmont Blvd in Hancock Park, have coffee at Peet’s Coffee then walk up the street to The Great White” for brunch. After we eat, we’d go to the Pacific Design Center on Melrose and San Vicente and check out the newest trends and classics in the world of furniture, lighting, rugs etc…
We’ d then go across the street to Zinque for a small bite or glass of wine and to enjoy people watching as we relax on their street side bistro tables…

At night…especially if it’s warm out, we’d go to old town culver city. Start at Akasha, then work our way down to the various markets and restaurants to enjoy the vibes and get a small bite for dinner.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Tribe, which consists of my family and close friends (they know who they are ;). Through their support, love and subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) nudging, they encouraged me to take the next steps and make my ideas, creations and initial vision for a Addis VIV come to fruition.
