We had the good fortune of connecting with Beth Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Beth, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
To be honest, I never dreamed of owning a business. I was content with a 9-5 job, putting in my time, and waiting for retirement. All of that changed in 2020, as I’m sure it did for many people. While the world was in crisis, I began reevaluating my life and aspirations. Several years prior to 2020, I had my own personal health crisis that continued on until I found functional medicine, addressed my health issues, and subsequently found a growing passion for food as medicine. Over those years, I shared my practice with my friends and family helping them listen to their bodies and actualize their health goals. By 2020, it was clear to me that I should share my passion with the world.
The motivation behind starting, Better Health by Beth, is my desire to help people, especially women struggling with weight gain, anxiety, hormone imbalances, and horrible menopause symptoms. Many of these women were probably told their experiences are signs of aging and to embrace it as normal. Better Health by Beth is in business to address these experiences, work to promote life-style changes and feel well again.
What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me apart and what I want to share with the world, about Better Health by Beth, is that the person behind it struggled, hustled, and learned lessons along the way to develop her brand. Women share their health struggles with me and I understand because I’ve lived it. During the most challenging parts of my journey, I lost days of my life to symptoms of hormone imbalance. My hormones were out of control, my anxiety was crippling and modern medicine convinced me that this was a normal experience for women. I wasn’t ready to just accept that and I fought back for a better quality of life. Past the challenges, there is another side and it is beautiful and abundant. I want to help other women find their beauty and abundance. It is a journey to the other side but nobody has to take that trip alone.
Starting and growing a business is never easy. Making the commitment to start was overwhelming and often isolating in the early days. There are two things I have had to pursue, to get to where I am now.
First, I intentionally took, and continue to take steps to move my business forward and second, consistently supported my clients.
Intentionally moving my business forward, meant being committed to my path no matter how small the step. Every day I had to find a step forward and some days it was something small like posting on social media.
Dedication to my clients is vital. I take responsibility to help them become a version of themselves they can’t even imagine yet. Whether through a quick chat, an hour long 1:1 video call or research I’ve put together for them, I am invested in supporting clients throughout our time together.
Better Health by Beth is an online health consulting business focused on helping women over 40 prioritize their health after years of putting themselves on the back burner. Together we create a blueprint for understanding how to balance hormones, control anxiety, and lose weight for good without restrictive diets. Through my business, I get to live doing what I love. I get excited helping women who thought they were doomed to live with all the symptoms of hormone imbalances, and watch them take charge of their own health. Within weeks of starting our 1:1 program, my clients have more energy and less anxiety than they have in years. Nothing makes me prouder.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens – I crave the outdoors and this spot is a happy place for me.
National Whitewater Center – Always a good time for lots of great outdoor activities including ziplining, rock climbing and whitewater rafting. Bonus: they have great food and live music on the weekends.
Lenny Boy Brewery – I’m not a big drinker but the have amazing kombucha brewed in house
The Local Dish – this one is just outside of Charlotte in Fort Mill but is a great farm to table place to grab dinner
Midwood Smokehouse – because you can’t come to the Carolina’s and not have BBQ
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband deserves as much credit for this business as I do. He supported me through my entire health crisis and has been my biggest supporter as I build this business. Without his encouragement I never would have been brave enough to start Better Health By Beth.
Dr. Stephen Cabral and his book “The Rainbarrel Effect” turned everything around for me and put me on my current path. His IHP program is where I recieved my certification as an Integraive Health Practitioner.
