We had the good fortune of connecting with Bex Sanchez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bex, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I’ve grown up believing in hustle culture; the idea that if I constantly work and overdo and be like those women I see on TV, I’m going to be successful. But let me tell you, it’s quite the opposite. Being overworked, as I have come to find, has been pretty toxic to my physical and mental health.

So, I’ve taken the steps to change and balance my work life with everything else. Before, I would work 7 days a week, 14 hours a day, staying up until 4am and getting back up at 8am to continue. I felt that any minute I spent not working was a waste of time and unproductive. But life has a funny way of telling us “no”. I’ve been working on taking more days off, resting when I need to, and most importantly, getting Enough Sleep. I’ve noticed a change in the quality of my work, I’m thinking a little clearer, and able to get myself in my creative space a lot easier.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Femme Creatives is a consulting company that supports women-run businesses. We provide services such as: Public Relations, Digital Marketing, Social Media Management, Event Management, and Web Design.

What I’m most proud of is the fact that I took that leap to start my company. It was a huge step for me and I’m proud to be working with the people that I have as well. The reason I am where I am today is because I’m persistent and being where I’m at in my career is never enough for me; I’m always wanting to get to the next step and grow.

It’s definitely not easy. Any entrepreneur will tell you that it’s not an easy job. We not only work 9am-5pm but also 5pm-9am. The number one lesson I’ve learned is to take care of yourself first. You’re not going to be able to work if you’re out of commission.

I want the world to know that there’s support for everyone and every community. Femme Creatives is here to help small businesses with their journey every step of the way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area and I wanted to show them the city. There would be tons of places I’d love to show them: shopping on melrose, brunch at Perch, drinks at the Federal and driving down PCH.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mentor and coach from high school has been another part of my success. As a player of his, i have definitely learned the benefits of tough love, which in turn has given me a thick skin.

Totally cliché, but my number one support, love, and encouragement is at home, with my boyfriend. He has been through every hard decision I’ve needed to make, all the tears when things go wrong, and all the happiness in my victories.

Lastly, my family. Who has supported and pushed me in every way possible from the beginning of my journey. No matter what it is I’ve wanted to do, they’ve stood by side.
