We had the good fortune of connecting with Bianca Jazmine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Alright, so let’s jump right in! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there a person, group, organization, book, etc that you want to dedicate your shoutout to? Who else deserves a little credit and recognition in your story?

I could write a book on the amount of appreciation I have for the people in my life who’ve supported my journey. I am eternally grateful for the fans & friends who listen with love, and to my musical mates for helping bring my creative visions to life.

I want to especially thank my family for being there from the beginning, and for believing in me before I even believed in myself. I also want to thank our close family friends Guy & Brenda Hoffman (brilliant artists behind The Pixie & The Bull) for opening my mind and heart to create from an authentic place, as well as Stefaniah McGowan for being an unconditionally loving mentor & friend and advocating for me from the start of my career.

Please tell us more about your art. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally? Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way? What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?

I am mainly a maker of music, but I love incorporating all the facets of my creativity into my music career too, such as painting/drawing (I hand-painted the cover art for my recent single “Marble Queen”), photography, poetry, design, and dance. I like to create art that encompasses an experience & engages the senses, and holds values & introspective ideas within the seams of its expression.

With my song “Marble Queen,” I sing about my growing houseplant (a marble queen pothos), reflecting on how taking care of her often mirrored the levels of love & care I had for myself. The values of self-love and growth are washed in a synth-heavy indie track that captures the sensation of sunlight tickling your skin, photosynthesizing right alongside the plants and trees.

I’ve noticed that I receive a lot of inspiration from nature, which probably explains why tapping into the senses is so important to me. My creative process is a paradoxical combination of being completely present in the natural world – whether it’s watering my plants, hiking, or watching the water – while diving deep within myself to find themes that merge the inner & outer worlds together, like yin & yang.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc. In your view, what are some of the most fun, interesting, exciting people, places or things to check out?

An ideal day in LA would have to start with a cup of coffee or matcha latte at the Laurel Canyon Country Store, where their colorful outdoor patio holds a rich history of famous musicians of the past. Then take a hike in Franklin Canyon Park where you can find both sweeping views and lush tree-lined paths next to the lake. After, grab a delicious sandwich from Ggiata Delicatessen – my personal favorite is the Lorri (I’m in a perpetual state of craving eggplant). If you’re in the mood to do some shopping, grab some records at Amoeba Music or browse the books & crafts at The Last Bookstore. At night, if you’re feeling introspective, grab a ticket for late night tea at The Shiloh Teahouse; and if you’re feeling adventurous, catch a local show at Gold Diggers or Harvard & Stone.
