We had the good fortune of connecting with Bianca L. Rodriguez, Ed.M, LMFT and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bianca L., what do you attribute your success to?
Learning to trust myself is the cornerstone of my success and what I teach others to do too. It hasn’t been easy to learn due to the childhood trauma I experienced. At around 4 years old I developed severe asthma. Some of my first memories are of gasping for air thinking that I was going to die. This installed the belief that I was never in control or safe which fueled massive anxiety that I attempted to control with an eating disorder, perfectionism and eventually alcoholism. My process of recovery and healing required me to give up all power to Source and acknowledge that the Divine exists within me. Knowing that I am complete and have the answers within is my salvation. Now I consider Source to be my life and business partner. It’s ironic that turning your power over to a Higher Power actually ends up allowing you to be completely empowered. It’s one of the mysteries of life!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I call myself a “Holistic Psychotherapist” because I believe that spirituality must supersede traditional psychology. Therefore I weave spiritual principals into my work with clients. This is not how I was trained so it took a lot of courage for me to step out of the ” traditional therapist framework” and develop my own brand of healing that’s never been done before. Now I find that clients a drawn to working with me because I speak to spirituality. I do this by acknowledging that we are already whole and helping clients identify the deeper meaning of their exisitence through various techniques such as breathwork, hypnosis and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Recently I launched an online course called Foundations of WellBEing to make this information accessible to more people. That’s really exciting to me! I believe the chaos and destruction we’re experiencing globally is a call for us to heal individually so that we may heal collectively. Being a conduit to that process is my reason for being.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Sweat Spot in Silver Lake is where I go to church. Dance is my religion and Ryan Heffington is my Preacher. He’s the most inspired dancer-soul I’ve ever witnessed. Just being in his presence lights me up. Currently he’s teaching classes online so we’d have to experience him in my Santa Monica bungalow which has a designated dance floor, of course! Next we’d grab lunch at Kreation on Montana Ave which is walkable from my house but they have several locations. Kreation serves super clean, yummy eats, has ample outdoor seating and supports social justice. I’d likely have a match latte and the salmon plate! In the eve we’d pack a blanket and my favorite Rose Cacao Bliss tea (it’s a recipe I invented – get it on my IGTV @youarecomplete) and take in the sunset while possibly reading poetry by one of my favorites such as Pablo Neruda or Joy Harjo.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents are the most important people for me to thank and acknowledge because without them I wouldn’t be who I am. I wouldn’t exist! And let me tell you, I have put them through the wringer. It’s a testament to the power of unconditional love. I believe we heal in relationship to others. My parents are the first and longest relationships I have so we’ve gotten to work through a lot of stuff together. The fact that they’re my cheerleaders and have allowed me the space to become who I truly am even when it gets ugly is the greatest gift of my life. I try to create this same space for the people I work with.
