We had the good fortune of connecting with Bibi Lucille and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bibi, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work life balance is such an important thing to master and will come with time. In my late teens, I felt that work was God and that doing anything besides it meant I didn’t deserve success. As I fell into my twenties, I started to realise that memories with friends and family was in fact incredibly important, and that I deserved success even when I was resting. The idea of giving yourself over completely to your work is unrealistic and unhealthy. You start to lose sight of what’s really important which is connection, family and community.

On another note, community is not only the key to good mental health, it’ll actually benefit your career. It takes a village; when you watch any film, the credits roll on for nearly the length of the film. Collaboration is necessary for all great pieces of art. Plus, what’s success if there’s no one to share it with?

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have several projects on the go – possibly just to keep me busy and I’m sure if I keep throwing stuff at the wall, something will stick. Something I have been very proud of the past four years has been creating the play ‘Meat Cute’ with my cousin Anastasia Bunce. I’m proud of it because it really comes from the heart and it’s the story I’ve always wanted to tell; an activist who struggles with the act of caring in an indifferent society. It was published last year by Aurora Metro and the short film is now in post-production.

Aside from acting, I’ve been working on a clothing brand called B.LUCILLE which is in development with Carolyn De La Drapiere, a boutique based in Barnes. I’ve also been working on some music with much help from Devansh Sood (CEO of Silver Seven Foundation) who has really helped on the production side of things, which was where I always struggled when it came to creating music.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve lived in London my whole life and still mostly head to the touristy spots for nights out. Soho is and probably always will be my favourite (despite how expensive it is!). The classic go-to’s are the famous jazz spots like Ronnie Scott’s and Gaz’s. And of course, for blues, the Ain’t Nothin But blues bar. There’s loads of great theatre around too – but rather than hitting the National, it’s always fun to try a fringe venue. My favourite is the White Bear theatre in Kentish Town; it’s filled with new artists and new ideas, which in my opinion is way more exciting than the millionth revival of Wicked.

To go off the beaten path, many years ago I would go to story telling nights at The Last Tuesday Society in East London – a bar filled with Pablo Escobar paraphernalia. It’s worth checking out for a slightly quirkier night.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are almost too many people to count where my thanks is due. I owe so much to so many and hope I can one day repay the favour (hopefully in the form of lots of cash). First, is my family. I have been lucky enough to grow up in a loving household filled with music, art and of course, endless support. I’ve also been lucky enough to have incredible friends throughout my life who have provided unwavering support through the ups and downs.

Some specific friends and creatives who I have been working with the past few months would be Bruna Pias, Bella Glanville, Giles Paley-Phillips, Carolyn De La Drapier and Devansh Sood. Collaborating has been a hugely important part of creating and is the foundation of every creative endeavour.
