We had the good fortune of connecting with BIG SPIKE and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi BIG, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
The best way I’ve learned to not give up is to make giving up not an option. Meaning, I take giving up off the table by putting myself in a position where it’s sink or swim, life or death, get rich or die trying. I put myself in positions where the only way to survive was to succeed; no backup plan, no extra support, just Plan A. Plan B is always gonna be the biggest enemy of Plan A. I’ve always had a theory that one day when we all get to heaven, someone is going to tell us that whatever we decided to do was going to work. We just had to stick with it long enough to see it through. And I honestly believe that for most people. That doesn’t mean we’re all going to the NBA, but most people truly can’t accomplish their dreams and do great things if they stick with them long enough for it to succeed.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a creative, I write the music, produce the beat, shoot the music video and shoot the album cover. I’m super involved in the process from ideas on hair and make up wardrobe, set design, album direction, marketing, and branding. Being a multidiscipline creative is difficult, but very rewarding.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When friends come to meet me in LA we’re usually in West Hollywood around sunset. We may go to some places to eat in the Grove, but I also think it’s important to hit taco trucks every once in a while too the cheaper the tacos the better! We like to be absorbed in the culture so we try to visit every exhibit and museum we can. That’s one of the things I love about LA. There’s so much to learn and see.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shout out to first and foremost my Lord and savior Jesus Christ, my friends and family, and the city of Los Angeles.
