We had the good fortune of connecting with Bill & Robyn Brawley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bill & Robyn, what do you want your legacy to be?
Our dream is to have created a better world by inspiring young people to find their direction in life through the power of music. Music brings people together, which helps them connect to their true self and purpose, and then inspires them to share their gifts with the world. We would like to be remembered for our passion for humans to trust in themselves and to live their truth. To have encouraged the world to a greater understanding and deeper connection and love for one another would be our greatest legacy.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We were both exposed to the arts at a young age, Bill through music and Robyn through dance. Growing up on a lake in Michigan in a family of sports fans and athletes, Bill found his passion in singing, arranging, writing, and directing musicals. Growing up in Australia with an amazing close family and three older brothers, Robyn fell in love with classical ballet and DANCE. We were both fortunate to have the full support and encouragement of our families. After High School Bill moved to California to pursue his love of music at Chapman University and Robyn joined the Australian Ballet Company and then toured in dance companies including the Royal Swedish Ballet. We both travelled around the world, working with well-known artists in our respective fields – Bill with the likes of Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr. and Robyn with ballet greats such as Rudolf Nureyev, Antoinette Sibley, Sir Frederick Ashton, Sir Robert Helpmann, and Jurgen Schneider. We believe it was those early influences that shaped our mission and vision of providing opportunities for other young people to travel and experience the world, while giving back and encouraging others through uplifting and empowering experiences. We accomplish this through the power of music, which provides the backdrop for uniting many different people through the freedom of expression which helps deepen personal relationships and build self-esteem. The road of life is paved with peaks and valleys and our students and cast members are our reflection through the many twists and turns. Though we aim to provide them with great leadership and be role models for them, in reality it is they who teach us. Through them we are able to widen our lens of the world, to sharpen our own resilience, and to continue to grow and learn. We worked in the non profit sector for a collective 50 plus years and, due to the global pandemic, we founded our own nonprofit to continue our life work and the programs we developed successfully over these years all over the world. Our new nonprofit, HEART Global, is staffed by industry professionals with incredible creativity, skill, knowledge, and passion, and in the few short months since our launch, our team has grown HEART Global beyond our expectations. Our mission is Creating Global Connections and Nurturing Future Generations Through Music, and our music and performance workshops are designed to provide a safe space for participants to express themselves so that they can grow, connect, and THRIVE. Because of the global pandemic people are feeling disconnected in ways that are unprecedented, yet we are finding that even within the virtual environment, through the power of music, our global cast and participants are able to connect in powerful and meaningful ways. Our incredible team and cast members are changing lives and bringing hope and joy to young people around the world, and we couldn’t be more proud.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We love live music and so finding wonderful little theatres or music venues are such a joy for us. One of our favorites is Catalina Jazz Club, as well as some of the larger more well-known venues, like The Pantages and Hollywood Bowl. All offer a wonderful way to share the incredible diversity of arts and culture that Los Angeles has to offer. Not to mention the many restaurants to choose from – with so many options we usually let our guests choose! We also adore the beach and a day on the sand, toes in the water, enjoying the relaxation of surf and sun, is another of our favorite LA adventures. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A special shout out to our parents and siblings who have always encouraged us to follow our dreams. Our parents showed us how to live our truth and shared their trust in us. Each person we have met on our journey of life is a thread that has been woven into the tapestry of our story, and we are are grateful beyond for what each of them have brought to our lives. We have been blessed by an incredible support system of family, friends, students, and collaborators across the globe, all of whom we consider family. Through our highest highs and lowest lows, they remain steadfast and we are forever grateful for their support, courage, wisdom, and love.
