We had the good fortune of connecting with Billy Myers III and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Billy, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Only give up if you genuinely hate the thing you’re giving up. Don’t waste your time continuing on with things that make you hate the thing or worse yourself. Whatever goal or dream you’re chasing that way will never provide the pay out you’re hoping for if you already hate it by the time you get there. If you don’t hate it, you keep going. You don’t have to be the best. You don’t have to be GOOD. You just have to keep going. One foot in front of the other, head down watching your feet. If you don’t quit, you’ll get where you need to go, as long as you understand that none of us actually know where the destination really is.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
On top of the normal difficulties that we all face trying to find success in this industry, my personal style of comedy is unconventional in almost every sense of the word. I don’t use a microphone and rarely stay on the stage for very long, it’s weird, I get it. It helps me stand out on shows, but at first it was almost a detriment, as there were a lot of comics, producers, and bookers who had VERY strong opinions on what stand up comedy is and how it should be performed who actively wouldn’t book me and would refer to my comedy as “unbookable.” This on top of the fact that last year around this time I was homeless & sleeping on sidewalks. Now, my comedy show the Riff Raff has sold out almost every week at Third Wheel Comedy in East Hollywood since Decemeber and we’ve sold out 3 consecutive times in the Belly Room of the world famous Comedy Store!
I’m pretty proud of that, because it’s all been through a lot of my own blood, sweat & tears and extremely daunting never ending hard work.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Get some of the best coffee & breakfast in town at Bolt on Hollywood. Watch people’s families disappointment become visible on their faces at the Walk of Fame.
GO SEE THE PACIFIC OCEAN IT DOESN’T MATTER WHICH BEACH JUST GO!!
Sunset Strip: Whisky A Go Go, Rainbow Bar(AMAZING FOOD & the Lemmy Statue FFS)
The Comedy Store is the greatest comedy venue in the world. It is always my absolute favorite place to be.
Last book Store.
