We had the good fortune of connecting with Bita and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bita, what do you attribute your success to?
Keeping my business small and simple allows me to focus on quality instead of quantity and lets me devote my time and attention to my customers. I am the buyer, designer and delivery person from A to Z. In the age of online shopping, most people expect an easy and seamless experience when it comes to their orders and deliveries and I feel I offer this service. My clients have me on speed dial — they know I’m only a text message away from helping them with an order. I work with them every step of the way from flower selection and style, followed by sending them a snap shot of the bouquet and delivery notification. I want them to have a unique and custom experience that they won’t find elsewhere. I take pride that my clients trust me in delivering their personal messages and emotions to their loved ones.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
This may come as a surprise to everyone that I have a degree in engineering! Left brain meets right brain! I used to work in a cubicle reading prints, designing and managing projects for 25 years. But at some point, the long commutes and poor work-life balance didn’t leave much choice but to change paths. It was one of the hardest decisions I had made in my life. You can imagine what the few first months of doing nothing felt like. I didn’t know what the future would hold, and how we were going to manage our household. Thanks to our Local Trader Joes, In Laguna Niguel, I started buying fresh flowers and making bouquets by watching You-tube tutorials. At first it was more of a hobby but with more encouragement, I decided to test the waters and see where this endeavor takes me. I didn’t know a anything about running a floral business especially since I am a late bloomer in this business (no pun intended!). I signed up for few Floral design classes at Golden West college and a few workshops here and there and gained more confidence. Being self-taught, there is still so much to learn which makes it so exciting to be in this industry. I follow the work of so many amazing fellow floral designers and I am inspired by their creativity and passion every day.
Now after six years, I can’t imagine my life without it. It’s what gets me out of bed in the morning. Just the thought of going flower shopping, gives me butterflies not to mention how wonderful it makes me feel delivering the final bouquet and seeing my customer’s happy reaction. It’s crazy. I would have never thought this could become my passion in life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in south Orange County means beautiful views and great bites everywhere you go. Personally, I love going with my family to catch the sunset and have a picnic on the grassy knoll at Salt Creek hill in Dana point. There are many beautiful walking trails in the area to choose from such as Strands beach and Salt creek trail. My all-time favorite place for drinks and yummy appetizers is the 180 Blu at the Ritz Carlton hotel. It has the most incredible ocean view terrace for meeting up with friends or celebrating special occasions.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family and friends played an integral role. They encouraged me to start this business and make it into a reality. In particular, my brother Bobby has been a huge source of support and motivation to help launch my business and take this leap of faith.
