We had the good fortune of connecting with Blanca Velazco and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Blanca, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
My motivation is driven by my father’s entrepreneurial mindset, practices, and successes. With my business I wanted to bring attention to how meditation, relaxation, among other mental health practices are crucial to navigating a society that could really affect self esteem, self confidence, and the way we perceive ourselves within society.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am currently a high school senior, ready to graduate this summer. I will be attending Washington University in St. Louis this upcoming fall as a neuroscience major. I have always dedicated myself to school, but as I entered my junior year of high school, I became a part-time employee at a local soccer shop and created my small business in May 2020. At my part-time job, Xtreme Soccer, I became the youngest employee and have evolved to a committed and experienced retail sales associate. I have had the opportunity to step up and take managerial responsibilities when there was a lack of. Balancing my part-time job, full-time academic schedule, and a small business was definitely not easy, but it was rewarding knowing that everything would pay off one day and that I could use my candles and breathing meditation practices to get through any situation I faced in any place.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have always lived in the city Lawndale but through competitive soccer, I have been able to find hidden gems all over the South Bay. The first go-to spot for breakfast is Wildflower Cafe in Redondo Beach. They have amazing options with a very beautiful outdoor space and very friendly staff. The South Bay is known for its beaches. A hidden soccer field, with an amazing view of the ocean, a Gazebo, and a small trail to the beach is Malaga Cove in Palos Verdes. You can spend an entire day here either playing soccer, basketball, taking a hike down to the beach, or navigating through the rocks on the shore. It is truly an amazing experience. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate my shoutout to my parents for not only believing in me, but helping me in any way that they were able to through promotion, staying up with me during the process of creating my items, and showing consistent support when I was ready to give up.
