Meet Bo Baskoro | Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bo Baskoro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bo, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
Hi there! Unless it’s a random project that is causing imbalance to your primary goals, I don’t really see a reason in giving up.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think what sets me apart is maybe the “cinematic-ness” of my sound. What I’m most excited about is starting to explore other directions of music for myself in the coming year. My big goal is just to be more involved in synch writing and specifically trailer music.
How I got here was by kind of trying to ride the momentum I got from the Maxwell House collaboration. But that fizzles out and it’s been hard to know what the next steps are. Releasing music into the ethos is just one step but I’ve never really had anyone directing me in what other steps to take so I’m kind of constantly shooting in the dark.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve been learning is setting up good boundaries about what you want in your productions and writing for yourself and not to satisfy someone else.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ooooookay, so let’s say we’re in my hometown of Portland. It depends on the season, so we’ll obviously go with summer. First we’re getting breakfast at Petite Provence because I love their salmon hash, then coffee at Good Coffee down the street. Next we’re driving out to the Columbia River Gorge to hike through some of the rivers and cliff jump off the waterfalls. Dinner is EdgeField. Most days are spent hiking or sightseeing and then visiting some of the great sushi spots there! But it’s hard, there’s a lot to do!! Hiking, swimming and cliff jumping would be a priority.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
One of the biggest ones was a production group called Taxi from New York. They heard about my background and thought that it was worth making into a mini doc for a rebranding campaign for Maxwell house. That led me to being introduced to Harvey Mason Jr. who was willing to make time for one of my songs that got a lot of attention which platformed me into the music scene. I’m so grateful for that moment and those people willing to make time for me.
