Meet Bo Electra | Singer/Songwriter/Performer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bo Electra and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bo, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
To be completely honest it feels as if there wasn’t even an option as to, whether or whether not I’d pursue a career in the arts. It was just so deeply engrained in me, since day 1. I’ve always been a performer in some way or another. Starting with competing in high level gymnastics (age 7), switching to classical ballet after a career ending injury and dancing in a company setting (age 16), to now the more independent path of singer/songwriter. I always say, “if I could literally choose any other path or sense of normalcy I would. however I can’t. It’s just not in the cards”. I am simply just destined or at times it feels doomed to chase these things that won’t be perceived as important or worthy to anyone else but me and a select few until the masses claim it as such. FUN TIMES!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Since this is a longer prompt and I’m a “talker” I’m going to break it down into parts…
(1) We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about
– All my writing stems from a place of “raw realities”. I have not had the easiest upbringing and the universe or “whatever is making things happen around us”, has absolutely put me through many tests of both strength and character and will without a doubt continue to. With that art has always been my outlet of therapeutic release. And always helps me to process what I’ve been put through. “Once I am capable of writing about it I can close that chapter and continue onto the next”. And though my personal experiences may not be perfectly aligned with a listener, they are always rooted with relatability. And I try to be totally open about what I’ve gone through so as to at least strike some cord that’ll make them feel seen, heard, and supported. As many artists have made me feel.
-Right now I think the thing I am most excited about is my debut single “DWTD” dropping. And all the things that will follow soon after it’s release. I have been so guarded with what I’ve been working on for quite some time (honestly too long) but i finally feel the moment is right to break that cycle and share or even OVERSHARE! With acceptance and preparation for all opinions that will come forth both good and bad, after I do.
(2) How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
How I got to where I am today and how I’ll get to where I desire to be has not and most likely will never feel “easy”. There really is no “linear path” of an artist and no blueprint for success. Not at least in the ways that there are in other careers. Wanting to pursue a passion has to come with the acceptance and acknowledgment that times will be tough and risks have to be taken. That is why having a strong team of people backing you, holding your hand, and being your shoulder to cry on when needed. Is so important. Without that backbone of support it is really hard to face the challenges that can make your dreams at times feel like nightmares.
(3) What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way
I am in the very beginning stages of my journey so I can only speak on what I have experienced thus far. With that I think that one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to “always remain resilient”. Following and throwing oneself into their passion is by nature and the systematic way of society a huge risk. A risk without immediate reward. If one is not resilient and willing to bend like bamboo through the storms rather than break like a branch. They’re bound to “fail”. So you have to be okay with rejection, toughing it out, and ready to grin and bare all the bad, with the hope and belief that the good will come as compensation for all your dedication.
(4) What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
If I wish for anything at this point to be put out about me and “my brand” as an artist. It is that, though on surface level I appear as a “calculated mess” or “manic pixie dreamgirl” (emphasis on MANIC). I am incredibly real and will always remain so. I am an open book about my experiences. Both “light” and the “dark”. And though I am young I’ve lived many lives. And plan to share each one in gory detail. In truthfulness I don’t act with a craving for “fame” but a hunger for a platform I can use to help others through my artistic gifts as others have helped me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my bestfriend were to come to LA and I wanted to show them the “best time” or at least the “best time” through my eyes I would take them to a few key places. Since I’ve moved to the city of angels I have absolutely found my “spots”. Starting with a very specific place under Santa Monica pier (where I often go to clear my head and reconnect with nature when I need it). Because “I’m 100% that witchy type that keeps moon water and crystals in her car at all times”. And following that wave I would suggest we go get readings at the psychic eye in studio city, followed by brunch at sweet butter kitchen. Then without a doubt in my mind before they even thought of returning home I’d have to take them to roam the halls of the historic millennium biltmore hotel and the beverly hills hotel ( because I have a deep obsession with old architecture and basically anything with a long history behind it / I’m genuinely a 20yr old with the spirit of someones grandmother living through me) (not to mention i wholeheartedly believe that Marilyn Monroe is my guardian angel and I have some part of her soul deep within my bones that dictate my actions). Other locations that we’d have to at least pop by are, Melrose trading post (for some thrifting), The troubadour (because it’s a dream venue of mine), erewhon (because they need to be exposed to an $18 smoothie), farm boy (for the most underrated snackies), a tree I like to write in, in Glendale (that may or may not have mine and some random manic pixie dream boys initials are carved it from that one time we hung out), and a bunch of other miscellaneous places I like to frequent for my fairy shenanigans.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh the list of people I’d like to shoutout for their love, support, encouragement, and inspiration is a long one. So I’ll force myself to keep it “short and sweet” well… “sweet-ish”. I’d firstly like to show my immense gratitude for both my bio family and chosen one. For always being there to support and protect me along this chaotic and at times delusional journey. Even when they can’t fully follow my logic or lack thereof. And secondly coming with a bit more shade I’d like to give thanks to the people and situations that have, and will continue to act as conduits of muse for me.
