Meet Bomi Lee | Singer Songwriter & Audio Engineer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bomi Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bomi, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I‘m an only child, and my parents both worked.
In South Korea, unlike the United States, it was common for children to be home alone while their parents were at work. So I spent a lot of time alone, and whenever I did, I liked playing in my head. My daily routine was reading books, imagining things, and doing what I wanted to do within those imaginations. That’s why being artistic and creative has become indispensable to me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Currently, I‘m working on my first EP album. The album includes 3 songs and will be released in July. The first dream I had since I was born was to become a singer. However, when I was young, I was very unsure of my talent and was a passive child. So I never took action to make my dream come true, and I gave up on it. As time passed, I went to study abroad in Japan, learned content production, and worked as a broadcast planner at a Japanese broadcasting station, but somewhere in my heart, I always wanted to do music. So I quit my job, came to LA, and graduated from recording school. Although I’m now trying to pursue the dream that I gave up on when I was young, sometimes I still have negative thoughts such as ‘isn’t it too late?’ or ‘Am I talented enough to pursue my dream?’. Perhaps the biggest challenge I have to overcome is the negative thoughts that sometimes bloom within me.
The title of the EP album is Inner Soundscapes, and it will be an album that allows you to look into my inner self. It’s about the stories I scribbled down in my mind, including such negative thoughts. I’m very excited because this EP is my first album and my first time releasing a song. I hope that this album will give courage to people who thought the same way as I did when I was young, and to tell people who are chasing their dreams like me now, “It’s not too late.”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I want to bring my friends to LA’s cafes, restaurants.
My favorite places are Culver City, Silver Lake, Highland Park, and Old Pasadena.
These places are lined with my favorite cafes, restaurants, and other stores, so just walking around is a lot of fun.
Besides that, there are a lot of good cafes in LA these days, so a week would not be enough to visit them all.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to express my deepest gratitude to my parents. Because my parents are the people I respect the most and the ones who support me the most. From my parents, I learned the energy and diligence to always move forward toward a goal, and thanks to their support, I was able to have diverse experiences in various countries. Also, even when I was having a very hard time, they always wished me happiness and supported me emotionally. Without my parents, I wouldn’t have been able to overcome any of my setbacks.
