We had the good fortune of connecting with Boris Labourguigne and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Boris, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was driven by my lifelong passion for film and my desire to create high-quality content that I myself would want to watch. When I was 20, in 2009, and living in a student apartment in Paris, I saw the potential for creating a successful online channel through 3èmeGauche, a YouTube channel, and recognized an opportunity to showcase real talent and create engaging content that resonated with audiences. At that time, the internet was flooded with poor-quality content, and I wanted to create something that had never been seen before. I was determined to make the most of this opportunity and worked hard to build our brand and establish ourselves as a leading source for music video content. I was fortunate to have a friend, Bastien Raynaud, who shared my vision and passion, and together we founded 3èmeGauche in 2009. When Bastien left 3èmeGauche, I continued to run the channel and teamed up with Augustin Chastel de Belloy in 2012 to create LEFT. Overall, my thought process was driven by my passion for film, my desire to create quality content that I myself would want to watch, and my determination to succeed in the industry.

What should our readers know about your business?
LEFT is a creative production company that creates elevated music videos, commercials, and brand content for clients in the tech, luxury, beauty, fashion, and lifestyle industries. We are based in California and France, and we work with clients all over North America and Europe. Some of our notable clients from the last 12 months include Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Squarespace, Megan Thee Stallion, and Muse. In 2022, we began working in narrative content and provided production services for the new spin-off of The Walking Dead with Norman Reedus shot in France. We are also currently developing several series for streaming platforms.

Building a successful business has not always been easy, and I have faced a number of challenges along the way. For example, when I first started 3èmeGauche, I had no connections or experience in the industry and very little funding. However, I was determined to make the most of the opportunity and worked hard to create high-quality content that resonated with audiences. I also learned the importance of surrounding myself with talented and hardworking people who shared my vision and values. These lessons have helped me overcome challenges and have played a key role in the success of LEFT.

I want the world to know that at LEFT, we are passionate about creating high-quality content that resonates with audiences and makes an impact. We are constantly striving to push the boundaries and deliver exceptional results for our clients. We are a dynamic and innovative company with a strong focus on collaboration and creativity. We are proud of the work we do and the relationships we have built with our clients, and we look forward to continuing to grow and evolve as a company.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I wanted to show my best friends the best time ever in LA, I would take them to some of my favorite spots on the East Side of LA, where I live. As a foodie, I would definitely recommend trying out some of the amazing restaurants in the area, like Pine and Crane for delicious Taiwanese cuisine in Silverlake, L’Appart for elevated French food in DTLA, Night + Market for vibrant Thai food in Silverlake, Bacetti for Italian food just a block away from LEFT’s headquarters in Echo Park, and Afuri for the best ramen in town in the Arts District.

For drinks, I would take them to Bar Flores in Echo Park, Soho Warehouse in the Arts District with a stunning view of the city from the rooftop, and Good Times at Davey Wayne’s, a hidden gem in Hollywood. If they’re looking to dance, I would suggest The Akbar in Silverlake, especially if my friend Erez is DJing.

For a fun outdoor activity, I would recommend the Wisdom Tree Hike and continuing the hike to the back of the Hollywood sign for breathtaking views of the city. There are so many other interesting and exciting places to visit…

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shoutout to all the people who have always believed in me and supported me in my endeavors. This includes my co-founder of 3èmeGauche, Bastien Raynaud, and my business partner at LEFT, Augustin Chastel de Belloy, and our talented and hardworking team at LEFT. I am also grateful to my family and friends who have always believed in me and supported me in my endeavors. Finally, I want to thank all the people involved in 3èmeGauche who took a chance on me and helped me become who I am today. Without all of these people, my journey and the success of LEFT would not have been possible.
