We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Paul and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I fell In love with singing and music at a young age and I knew it was something I’d want to do for the rest of my life. I joined choir in high school and I became obsessed with harmonies & singing with friends. I continued studying music in college where I began my songwriting journey.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I write my original songs based off my own life experiences and sometimes I write them about my friend’s life experiences. My songs have been created out of heavy emotions that I was having a hard time processing. Once I write my feelings out into lyrics and put a melody and chords to it, it feels like I can let go of the weight a bit easier. I am excited to release the next few singles that I’ve been working on for the last year. I can feel the more that I write, the deeper I’m able to dive into myself and pull from even deeper parts of who I am and that excites me for the future of my music.

One of the most impactful lessons I’ve learned along the way is to trust myself. In the past I would search for reassurance that I was a good artist or if my music was “good enough” but the truth is, once you learn to trust yourself, things just don’t seem that deep anymore. I used to take hate online or from others in person to heart but I realized that negative people are almost always projecting their negative self image onto you and that has everything to do with them and nothing to do with me so I continue pushing forward and staying focused on my own musical journey.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
LA has such a wide variety of food, people, and experiences. I would definitely take them to eat some Mexican food at one of my favorite spots called Kalaveras. This spot also has the best margaritas and a very lively ambience. I’d then drive us over to the beach! Honestly, the west coast is full of beautiful beaches but Laguna beach has to be one of my favorite spots to unwind and chill. I’d end the night going to a live music venue in OC or LA.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my Family for all of their support on my musical journey. My Mom, my Dad, my sister & my 2 brothers have all encouraged me to continue writing and creating. In a creative field like this, it’s easy to doubt yourself at times but my family has always encouraged me to live my truth and have kept me grounded.

I also want to shoutout my music teachers. From high school to college, to the voice teachers I’ve studied with, they have all helped shape me into the musician and artist I am today.
