We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Montel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I ever had to make was leaving my family in Memphis, TN and moving to Los Angles, CA. I was very sheltered as a child and growing up with my Mother and two siblings. My mother played both parent rolls and provided for our family as much as she could. I made a “not so well thought out decision” to move somewhere I believe would help me provide for my family in the future. Moving across the world to a state where I had no family or knowledge of what to do and nothing to my name was one of the toughest. Many obstacles were thrown my way to distract me from my goal such as a place to live, how to maintain that place and have a consistent income. I believe with focus and determination, I was able to book gigs for artists such as Ama Lou, Jorja Smith and Kanye West. Things of that nature kept me grounded and also taught me how to move as a full time artist moving forward.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe growing up in church helps develop the best, most well rounded singers. You learn not only religion, but how to really get in touch with your emotions. I’m proud of how determined I was, and still am, to be an artist. I never thought for a second to give up on a gift that my family instilled into me since I was a child. I never expected anything to be easy and I for sure didn’t grow up with a silver spoon in my mouth. Knowing that music was my passion, my focus to learn, grow and adapt to any situation made me feel unique, confident and powerful. Having that same focus and determination is the reason that I believe I am in this more focused, well deserving place that I am in now. I want the world to see and understand my passion for music, why I have such a drive for this and how committed I am to my artistry.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My best friend Jennifer and I have just about everything in common. I would say hiking, taking her to a few beaches because we love sun, waves and relaxing. Hot n Juicy Crawfish is one of my favorite seafood spots in LA. EP&LP, Castaway, Catch LA and Eveleigh all have great food and drinks…the list goes on! Live performances and drag shows are her weakness. LA is just an experience and there’s so much to do!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out to my family, my partner, Artist Developer/Producer B. Martin and my wonderful LA friends who have helped me stay on track and continue to recognize and support my gift. They encourage me daily.
