We had the good fortune of connecting with Breann Broussard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Breann, why did you pursue a creative career?
My career chose me, I never thought in a million years that I would be a hairstylist let alone a business owner. Well, this all started back at Hamilton High School girl’s restroom (just wait…let me finish), it was my safe place, I turned into my own little glam room. Due to being teased about my appearance, I became profoundly serious about my appearance. When my schoolmates would come inside and see me using a flat iron to straighten my hair, eyeliner, lashes & lipstick being applied it became the newest attraction. Friends & classmates begin to make appointments before school, during our breaks and during our lunch, for simple touch ups or just to clean up their look. They would pay me with lunch tickets or their daily allowance, I cannot lie the money, or the extra food was rewarding. However, when I would see the smiles on their faces or how it would make them feel, it no longer became an appointment, it became fulfillment beyond my imagination.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Following my high school graduation, I began to connect with more creatives and was afforded the opportunity to open my own private hair & makeup studio “B. Styles Artistry” & became the head stylist for a short film which sparked a whole new love of set work. As time went on, more doors begin to open which led to opportunities to work on such platforms as the Stellar Awards, BET Celebration of Gospel as well as countless nationally syndicated television programs and fashion shows. In the spring of 2016, I Launched my 2nd business venture “Be Creative Agency” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpHvKQi1T4E), an amazing collaboration with creatives I’ve connected with over the years. This has been a fulfilled life, but it has not all been peaches and crème. From being homeless, going back and forth trying to finish cosmetology school, having a mild stroke. I’ve had my own studio to now renting a booth, 3 state shutdowns, promises from so called mentors, jealousy from people who I thought would help me, teach me, and guide me and now a Survivor of COVID-19. However, with the most negative resume, God has protected me beyond what I can even imagine. After 12 years of being in this amazing business & with much research on Friday April 24, 2020 I finally launch my own Hair Extension Line “B Artistry Hair Co”. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 I wasn’t able to have the party I planned nevertheless; we had the BEST Virtual Launch Party Ever, Click Link Below. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSDVJYOCWFc). After much success, 10 months after I launched on January 1, 2021 I released my 1st product, The B Artistry Hair Luxury Wax Stick. I sold out in 6 hours after my release in the mist of a pandemic, I’m still in shock and so grateful for all the support.
