We had the good fortune of connecting with Brendan Dekora and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brendan, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I didn’t think I really had a choice. I have loved music since a young age, and I knew that if I didn’t work in the music industry I would be unhappy. I don’t believe in work that you don’t enjoy. I could never work in a field that isn’t my passion.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I focus on mixing rock music. I have been fortunate to have credits with many of my favorite artists, including Nine Inch Nails, Foo Fighters, and Steven Wilson.
I have gotten to where I am business-wise through a a lot of hard work and having the dedication to learn from some of the best in the industry. It was not easy, but through perseverance and passion for music I overcame the challenges.
I am now working on several exciting projects that will cement my position in the industry even further as a prominent mixing engineer. Including several top albums, and also a drum library with a large name in the industry.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give credit to Candace Stewart, the Manager at EastWest Studios. I worked under her for many years, under two different owners for the studio. She is a legend of the industry, and always has her employees and friends in mind. She helps out whenever she can, using her massive list of connections whenever she can. Still today long after I’ve left, she refers me for amazing gigs. Thank you Candace.
