Meet Breshae Davis-Causey | Business Owner of Color World

We had the good fortune of connecting with Breshae Davis-Causey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Breshae, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Our mission is to create a world where color is beautiful. I believe our opinions on ourselves and others are formed as children. Due to this fact, I focus on products and entertainment specifically tailored towards children. I plan to expand my business to all things children including my major goal of owning a theme park. Children imitate what they see, so I aim to be one of the leaders of childhood entertainment in mass media presenting these children with positive messages on embracing their own culture and others. If I can reach all children to have the same mindset of loving others and their own cultures and roots, they will grow up to be loving and cultural accepting adults that pass those same ideologies on to their children. I see this becoming a ripple effect of cultural acceptance that can change the prejudice and racism in the world. One of the children that may have watched one of our cartoons on race or culture could become a future president who grew up with the same values we taught him or her on our Color World shows.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I graduated with my bachelors of business administration with a concentration in marketing from Louisiana State University. I am currently working on my masters in business admin with an emphasis in marketing while working full time as a production assistant in the props department for FOX hit show 911. My journey was one that required a lot of finding myself to get through. During my college career, i attended 3 universities. I started at Clark Atlanta University with the impression that , that was my dream school and I will have the best experience of my life. That dream became a nightmare and I had to make my first adult decision to stay because I committed to that school or leave for the betterment of myself and my future. I decided to leave and transferred to University of Arizona where I excelled and love the school but my parents were struggling in exchange for my education so I had to make a second adult decision and sacrificed for them. I returned to Clark Atlanta where tuition was little to nothing and my parents were able to get back on their feet. Once my parents were settled I transferred one last time to Louisiana State University where the tuition was reasonably for my parents new financial position. Through these experiences I learned how to live for myself. All of my life my parents and granny had control and for once I had to take control of my future and what I felt was best for me. I still struggle with needing their approval for a lot of decisions I make but that is just based on the level of respect I have for them rather than needing them to control my life.
What I want the world to know about myself, my brand, and my story. Is that Color World is based on my experiences. My struggles as a dark skin girl, my struggles as a black girl in professional settings, and my struggles with being my authentic self without fear of judgment.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a kid at heart, hence, the childhood centered business. I would take my friends to Disneyland and knotts berry farm on the weekend. During the week we would go to the beach , and popular LA restaurants.
It also depends on the friends interest, if it was a friend that loves to party, we would go to day parties or whatever event I know of. But if its a friend that was more like me that enjoys a good theme park and movie night in or dinner, I would just invite friends over for a game night or food and drinks.
In my opinion, an exciting place is Amusement parks, even chuck e cheese is a great time to me, but not every one is the same at my age.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family deserves all of the recognition in my story. I thank God daily for placing me in the family that I have been blessed with. I am the product of a teenage mother from compton and a father in prison my entire upbringing. My family including cousins ,aunts , and uncles, has been the epitome of a village to myself and my mother.
My mom worked incredibly hard for me to have the best education and a better life making sacrifices that I aim to repay her for daily. My granny has been our rock and best friend , her strength is unearthly. My Dad who is not biological but raised me as if I came from his very own blood has been my shoulder every time I doubted myself or my talent. Lastly, my boyfriend since high school who helped me realize what my goals are and never let me steer away from them when I am overwhelmed.
With this, I say thank you to my village for writing my story.
