We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brian, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think there’s always a risk in starting your own business as a creative. I couldn’t see myself being satisfied with a typical 9-5 job and I knew that I wanted to pursue a career that would allow me to express myself creatively and without boundaries. As a photographer, I constantly feel motivated to challenge myself artistically and to work in new environments.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My photography is rooted in capturing unplanned and authentic moments. Street photography has been an integral part of learning my craft because it taught me to go out and take photos even when the weather conditions might not be in my favor, to think quickly on my feet, and to not overanalyze the shot because every moment only happens once.

One of my proudest accomplishments as a photographer was working with Pacifica’s Marina del Rey Hotel. It was a perfect mix of travel and architectural photography, as well as lifestyle photography. I got to work not only as a photographer, but also as a creative director. I have learned a lot since that photoshoot, but the opportunity was one that I will never forget.

Over the years, I have worked with other hotels, collaborated with businesses and models for lifestyle photoshoots, and have solo traveled to cities in other countries like London, Tokyo, and Berlin. Each opportunity I get to go out and photograph is an experience that allows me to better myself as an artist.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting Los Angeles, I would love to show them some of the local sunset spots that I love to visit as a traveler and as a photographer.

You can see a stunning view of Los Angeles from the Griffith Observatory where you can also see the Hollywood Sign. In Malibu, El Matador Beach is my favorite beach to visit when possible. As long as you’re careful about high tide, it’s a beautiful spot to also catch some amazing sunsets. The beach near the Santa Monica Pier is another location that I love to visit at sunset. Lastly, the Walt Disney Concert Hall is an incredible work of architecture in Downtown Los Angeles that I highly recommend anyone check out if they get the chance.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
To be honest, there is a long list of people who have been a part of my journey. I have been very fortunate to start my photography career here in Los Angeles, where I have met other photographers, actors, models, and creatives from different fields. Whether they have had years of experience in their craft or were just starting out, I have always had such huge respect for any artist willing to pursue their dreams regardless of challenges that they faced.

Storytelling is a huge part of my career and being able to connect with and learn from other creatives who share their stories through their art is a big reason why I love what I do.
