We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian McGrath and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brian, how do you define success?
I think as an actor I define my success in terms of growth. Growth within my opportunities and community. Getting to create and build with other amazing artists let’s me become better at my craft. It is a snowball effect. Your success can increase over time but you don’t lose the success you have already created. If I get rich enough through all the growth maybe I will change my mind and define success by number of houses or boats. We’ll see.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think something that sets me apart from others is my analytical side. I think that comes from my sports fandom and statistics. I love to analyze the business of acting. I love to help others and root for them. Put people in touch with other creatives they don’t know. I met the creator of For All Mankind through another friend who is a writer and we all just liked getting excited about each other’s work. I was lucky enough to fit the world they were building at got to be a small part of that amazing story. I think if I have learned anything it is to celebrate not just your wins but to truly be happy for others. It is the best getting to have people to cheer for and that cheer for you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I do love a Venice boardwalk tour if I have a friend that has never been to Los Angeles, I also like to use a friend visiting as an excuse to hit up a museum so Getty makes the list. Top food spots are Salsa & Beer and Bay Cities and a dodger dog if we hit up a game. I would probably mix in something on Brant Cox’s newest Infatuation list. At if it is a true friend of mine they will probably go with me to an improv show and wind down one night playing dominos or trivia and getting pizza. I just had Brooklyn Wagon, my new fave.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I don’t think I could narrow down a shoutout. My community and friends from Groundlings, The Village Acting Studio, University of AZ, TGR, and so many people along the way deserve it. So probably my 250 biggest supporters. I could have a different answer everyday. For now I will say my best friends Jonathan Mentzer and John Heintz have been there for me the longest.
