We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian Orlando and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brian, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
When I first became the morning show host of 943 The Shark, there was an urgency. In the deepest crevices of every ego is the desire to be the best but on the surface this urgency was driven by survival. It had taken many almosts, many hands on the brass ring only to watch it slip away moments, to fully appreciate the opportunity I was given when I became a full time AM drive DJ on my hometown rock radio station. I monitored the social media 24/7 with the motive of expanding our reach beyond the signal range. I stood before every late night live crowd I could to bring out bands and address listeners and keep my brand visible despite having less than two hours to sleep before the need to drive back to the station to start the next show. I ate slept and drank the forward progress of the radio station.
Once I embraced psychic mediumship and intuitive guidance, I realized how little time we have. It became obviously hypocritical to obsess over Morning Show Radio Dominance while advising someone I was reading about slowing down to see the signs and taking more time for yourself to heal from wounds they weren’t taking time to recognize. My advice became a pep talk with my mirror. At 47, I never stopped loving radio. I never stopped wanting to be number one but the revelation that has opened up not just my eyes but many opportunities is that there are too many other factors in the world do place it all on your shoulders. Trust that its gonna work out, and trust that you will be okay if it doesn’t is crucial. I’ve learned that when it “doesnt work out” that it actually did. It just wasnt to the exact vision that I painted. Balance means realizing when you have done as much as you could, and allowing fate to do the rest. In work, relationships, friendships and getting aggravated about the New York Rangers

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The art form is connection. There is an intricate craft to hosting a 5 hour solo morning show on FM radio, as you navigate through commercial breaks, disruptions in traffic patterns and songs not is prepared for to keep people listening. There are tens of and hundreds of thousands of people listening in their cars, the warehouse, or on the job site but the art of radio is speaking to ONE person. Connecting with one person. When you paint a picture you hope that millions see it but each set of eyes has its own connection to it. When you release a new single, you want everyone to love your song but everyone who hears it will have their own opinion on what the lyrics mean.

As a psychic medium, its your connection with spirit, with your guides, with the person your reading that makes the session special. My book, Rock N Soul Tarot is a guide to use your personal experiences with music, with relationships, and even with your continuous mistakes to make a deeper connection with your cards and your intuition. The Art of connection is what makes Art powerful no matter what outlet you choose to express it

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Fonda Theater is one of the best places I have ever witnessed a concert at, The acoustics, the atmosphere. There is nothing like it

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Mother. First and foremost. She still reads tarot at 73 years old and there is no one better. What I learned from her was less about her very traditional approach and more about the way she carried herself. The way to respect your client and yourself. How to handle delicate messages and emotional realizations. The importance of boundaries and the purpose for of a reading and why you never forget that purpose, even if the person being read doesn’t share the same belief in that purpose. We’re guides not Gods and I’ve learned all of that from my mother

My Father. My father didnt just introduce me to music. He taught me about music. Spent hours in the car explaining why songs were written and which bands took pieces of their sound from others. He sparked my lifelong obsession with music that his brother Richie and my Aunt Leslie helped me take to the next level by introducing me to Bruce Springsteen’s music. I wasnt sure how rock and roll changed my life when I first discovered it at 6 years old but I just knew that it did. It was My father and my Aunt and Uncle that led me to my passion
