We had the good fortune of connecting with Briana Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Briana, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success as an individual would be my dedication and taking a risk on myself. I adopted the mentality incredibly early that if you want something, you must go for it. When you have a goal, you are trying to achieve, you should always take a bet on yourself to get to the next step(s) within your life. Additionally, I do believe that you must see the greatness in you because if you don’t then who else will believe in you?! The success of my brand came at a remarkably interesting time because my brand was birthed January 2020 with an official launch date of June 2020. Within those first six months, our country experienced the pandemic that had surfaced around Covid-19. For many of us, we encountered various lost whether it has been with jobs, lost of loved ones and/or lost of what our “normal” lives used to consist of. At the beginning of the pandemic, I was laid off from my job like many Americans however this idle time away from corporate really planted the seed for Timeelessbeauty. Being away from the 9 to 5 routine in a corporate setting, I was able to set my own hours and fully dive into my brand. My daily schedule would include but not limited to admin work, creating products, connecting with vendors, developing marketing strategies and being available for customers who may have questions about products. Success of my brand is knowing and understanding that not everyday will be easy. Some days, we have all had the feeling of wanting to give up or even question why we decided to create our own brand however it is important to always keep your eye on the prize and also know that those “dark” and yet “questionable” moments are just moments. Those moments should not define your overall purpose. What I am confident about is that God planted this vision within me for a reason and it is my duty to fulfill it. Lastly, I always keep the perspective that I am not only doing this for myself, but I am also doing this for my loved ones, my community, and generations to come after me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an inspiring Woman Boss and Entrepreneur from Inglewood, CA ; Growing up, I had various perspectives on how I wanted to make a difference, at a very young age, I wanted to be a Doctor, then I considered becoming a Biologist and to even consider becoming a Psychologist, however I finally found a home within Sociology therefore I decided to claim it as my major. At the beginning of my college career, I attended El Camino Community College. At ECC, I majored in Sociology & General Studies and I was very involved on my campus serving as the President of the Black Student Union and also working as a Student Ambassador. I transferred from ECC to Cal State Dominguez Hills and within a year, I graduated with my B.A in Sociology from CSUDH. Shortly after graduating from CSUDH, I began working a Full-Time job and enjoyed the freedom away from the academic environment. During this time, I realized that I was becoming a job hopper and it was not because I could not keep a job, it was because I was not happy. I knew I needed to focus on finding something I could call my own and build that empire I always would daydream about. When it comes to entrepreneurship, my determination towards Timeelessbeauty is what I am extremely proud of. Who knew, the idea that I randomly ran across of on YouTube would bring so much and would also grant me the first layer of building my empire. December 2019, I was on YouTube searching for legal side incomes and as I was searching, “How to make 6k off of Lip Gloss” comes across my screen. Once I saw this, I wanted to know more and how this idea allowed someone the chance to make 6k off of lipgloss. YouTube provided a tutorial video and I instantly went to Amazon and other platforms to find the products. I also remembered years ago, I wrote down that I wanted to develop a name for myself in the beauty industry. I felt that I manifested the beauty industry as my main area of focus and it was also intriguing to me now everything circled back. In that moment, I knew God was working in my life and he was showing me the direction for my empire. I did not question it, I went all in and I never looked back. I picked a name for my beauty line and decided to call it, Timeelessbeauty. Some of the lessons I’ve learned along the way is to NOT give up! I want the world to know that owning a business will not grant you success overnight. Owning a business takes true time and dedication, this is something you have to be prepared for. Another thing about business is that, scared money does not make money. You have to know when to invest in certain aspects of your business but you also have to know when to pause briefly to see how things will unfold. Lastly, it is important to understand that you may have a week of great sales then you may have another week of decrease in your sales but regardless of the outcome, always have an open mind and understand that those “hard” moments are not forever. You are not failing if you are trying.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my bestfriend was visiting from out of town for a few days, I would take her on a hike that has an ocean view probably somewhere in PV or Santa Monica . I love being outdoors, nature brings me so much peace and clarity. After we take our hike, I would probably take her out for ramen. We would also have to find a smoothie place or fruit stand along the way because what is a day in LA without stopping to get a snack or something refreshing to drink. would make sure that I drive her around town and take her to some of my favorite spots such as: Culver City, Ladera Heights and my hometown Inglewood. I’d show her Market Street to give her a tour of where they shoot Insecure frequently and give her a tour of the Inglewood Swapmeet so she could grab an LA shirt to take back home. Within her Inglewood tour, I’d show her the Forum and the new Stadium. I would also offer to be her personal photographer for Instagram. I’d probably take her to Fiesta Martin to get a drink and some food. If we had more time, I would love to show her around Leimert Park and take her to Eso Won bookstore. She’d find a few gems in there. After browsing through Leimert Park, we’d drive through DTLA and I would even show her would Long Beach has to offer, the pike is extremely beautiful at night.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to take a moment to pay my respects to God because without God, I would not have this vision to create. There is no Timeelessbeauty or Briana without thanking God for having the ability to be in the position that I am currently am and to also have experienced this journey so far, I have to give a special Thank you to my Parents and my Grandmother (Rest in Peace) because without these individuals, I would not be where I am. At an early age, my Parents and my Grandma have always told me that the sky was the limit and they were right because anything you put your mind to, it’s yours. Your thoughts, surroundings and energy can manifest the life you want and desire for yourself. Lastly, I have to especially Thank my bestfriend and my boyfriend because these two have listened to all of my business ideas, provided feedback, helped visually brainstorm concepts, have set aside time to assist with making my first vendor event a successful one, etc. You name it, they’ve done it! I am so grateful for everyone because they’ve truly been my rock before Timeelessbeauty, in the making of Timeelessbeauty and as Timeelessbeauty applies the gas to navigate through life and business. I have encountered various levels of support from mentors, selective family and friends in which I am thankful for.
