Meet Brianna “Def” Woods | Photographer & Creative

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brianna “Def” Woods and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brianna “Def”, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
This is definitely a question I’ve been tasked with before. For me personally, every time I’ve considered giving up, it has really come down to passion. I create things, this is what I love to do. When I don’t do it, I am not myself. You have to ask yourself, if I stop doing this today will my life be better or worse? For me, that is how I will always approach that question. If there ever comes a time when the answer is “yes.” I will walk away.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a photographer that loves capturing most things, people related. I am the most proud of making everyday people feel and understand they belong in front of the camera as well. Often times, my clients initially feel out of place or uncomfortable in front of the lens. But together, we are able to capture pretty genuine moments, something authentic that looks good. To get to where I am today, professionally, took a lot of grit and faith. There is no “how to” book when it comes to making a successful career out of “art.” It wasn’t and still isn’t easy. I overcome challenges by being creative in my approach, bouncing things off of my circle of close friends and family. What I’ve learned along the way is things happen outside of my control even when I plan ahead, be resilient. I want the world to know that my brand is about celebrating everyday people, that I am damn good at what I do and that my brand is about uplifting people that don’t fit the mold.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m all about the view, I would take my best friend to the hills. I love driving the through Malibu and up PCH, especially around the time the sunsets. We will check the typical boxes of hitting Griffith, dtla, Santa Monica Pier and Venice. But I’ll also take them to the authentic taco trucks and places that make LA, LA. We’re definitely hitting up Santee alley, the fashion district, Rodeo, 3rd street promenade, the old zoo and Monty’s Good Burger.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A close friend of mine, Knoxx, fashion designer and owner of Dvmn Pigeon. She has supported my creative career and has also inspired me and been another creative to bounce ideas off of along the way.
