Meet Brianna Hernandez | Esthetician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brianna Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brianna, how do you think about risk?
I love a great risk. To an extent of course! The feeling of the unknown really excites me. If I didn’t take the risk to “cold turkey” open my own business, I would still be working for someone else. I am so happy at the fact that I chose to make that leap and figure it out as I go.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Something I take immense pride in, is always making my clients feel special. A first time client will leave my studio feeling like we’ve been friends forever! I always have genuine conversations with them so they feel that connection. Letting my clients vent to me about whatever is on their mind also aids in them leaving less stressed and clear minded.
Getting to this point in my career wasn’t easy by any means. Actually it was really hard, time consuming and stressful. Although, I wouldn’t change it for the world. The Skin Bar was born after two years of working for a family owned spa on the East coast. I started looking and rooms to rent in salons before I came to the decision of opening my own business. I then chose to take the leap and see what happens. I didn’t have money set aside, I wasn’t allowed to take my clientele (understandable), all I had was a credit card, a dream, and an intense drive to make it work. I was let go the next day after informing my job that I was choosing to open my own business. Which fueled me even more. As soon as I was let go, I started marketing myself on Groupon, made a separate Instagram just for the business, and stayed at my new studio all day just in the case that I got a walk-in. I am beyond fortunate that a good majority of my old clients found me on social media and requested to book with me. I had my own business in Virginia Beach for almost 3 years before moving back home to Southern California. Moving back home was a blessing in disguise. What a roller coaster that was! My Esthetic license transferred over in December of 2019, opened my own studio in January of 2020, and then COVID hit two months later. Building a clientele was impossible during the shut down. When the shutdown was lifted, I tried it again and this time was a success. I have since been on my own, building a strong clientele of the most amazing clients!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’re definitely going to visit Downtown Redlands! I love that little city so much! Klüddes, Darby’s, Martha Greens for breakfast! Then heading to the beach for a few days! If the weather is nice, I’m taking them to Glamis, the sand dunes. So much fun! Then off to the beach to end the week! Finding new little cafe’s and small owned businesses are my favorite!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shoutout my family! All they do is support me! Even when they don’t think they’re helping or supporting me, they are. I have this habit where I will run an idea by them and they always just say “go for it” because they know I’m going to take the leap, do it, and figure it out later. A special shoutout to my boyfriend, who is endlessly supporting me and helping me work through tough business decisions.
