We had the good fortune of connecting with Brianna Schwartz Alexis Schreiber and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brianna Schwartz, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Music has always been core to our lives and we both knew from a young age that we wanted to be involved in the industry. Entertainment law allowed us the opportunity to combine our passion for music and creativity with a career in the legal field. We identified a gap in the attorney-client relationship and joined forces to create Schwartz & Schreiber with the goal of providing a true end-to-end partnership with clients, becoming a true member of their team rather than just a passive or reactive attorney that is only involved when there is an issue. We have found that this approach is not only more fulfilling for us, but also resonates with clients as we have supported over 70 clients to date, including GRAMMY-award winning and nominated artists, producers, songwriters, renowned labels, digital and tech platforms, national festivals, sync houses and more.
From the onset of our firm, we were intentional about three things that we feel are so important to making a difference in the industry:
First, we deeply understand the culture of our clients and their work. We listen to their music, we attend their shows, we travel for the festivals. We listen to both the short and long-term goals of the client which allows us to provide a deeper level of support when we get into contract agreements and negotiations. Just as fans crave authenticity from their artists, artists want the same from their partners, and we knew being a distant figure in some downtown high-rise wasn’t going to cut it.
Second, we provide a holistic approach, meaning we are a right-hand partner for any business decision in their career, and we look to add value in any way that we can. The closer we are to the business strategy of the artist, their marketing efforts, how they want to be perceived, and the brand they’re trying to build, the better we are able to advise and negotiate for them. It is a powerful pairing and one we are particular about preserving with all clients.
Lastly, we are selective about our clients and really take on those that are committed to their craft. We take great pride in our work, and are not afraid to put in the time so we expect the same from our clients. It is most fulfilling for us to be involved in the growth of an artist or business, so the most exciting projects include artists with big ambitions that are ready and willing to invest in themselves.
What should our readers know about your business?
Building a business is never easy, regardless of industry or skill. As young, female founders in an otherwise male-dominated industry, we have a lot to prove, and the only way to do that is through action. It takes a lot of hustle, persistence, dedication, meticulous drafting and review, and endless hours.
We are so grateful for the clients that have trusted us to help build their careers and brands, and we don’t plan to stop there. We have ambitions to create a brand that is bigger than ourselves – renowned and trusted in the entertainment industry for full scope legal services. Even now that we have gotten past those first few years of grinding, we are still working through weekends and traveling for clients and events constantly. The thing is, we really love it. Our clients are amazing and the work is endlessly fascinating.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of our favorite spots and things to do are: – Morning coffee in Venice at Menottis
– Drive up the PCH for a hike at Los Liones
– Check out a show at the Troubadour
– Head to K-Town for bbq bowling and/or karaoke

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely! We have been so fortunate to be mentored by some of the best in the business and credit so much of where we are today to their support and encouragement over the years. Specifically, Leslie Zigel who gave us both our start and first jobs as music attorneys, Harold Flegelman, who gave us the courage and tools to go off on our own, and Joe Serling, who has provided sage advice and support as we navigated our early days.
