Meet Brinley Amicon | Guitarist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brinley Amicon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brinley, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Subjectively speaking, the most important factor behind my “success” is keeping the music as the focal point of my career— music opposed to gender, appearance, etcetera.
I fully comprehend the benefits of being a female guitarist. Despite this, I do not want, nor expect a hall-pass or pity claps because of my gender. Although I am most definitely microscopic in the “guitar world,” I would like to work toward an industry where women, being talented and knowledgeable, is not seen as “abnormal.”

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
December 2020, I decided to give Instagram reels a go. I intended on posting a guitar video, five days a week, for the entire month. Of course, with a full-time job and other commitments, there were times where posting the desired quantity was unrealistic. Nonetheless, I gave my best effort and was pleasantly surprised by the response. Supplementally, I loved how the accountability component forced me to practice even more frequently, push boundaries, sharpen my ability to achieve certain tones and connect with Rock n Roll lovers across the world.
Do I want to be an “Instagram guitarist” for the rest of my life? No. I would love to be on tour, writing, recording and adding to the conversation that encourages women in music. Nonetheless, I realize Instagram’s potential benefits— especially during the pandemic— and am beyond grateful/fortunate to have a platform of any sort.
