Meet Britt Rowe | Co-Founder Hella Awkward

We had the good fortune of connecting with Britt Rowe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Britt, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?

What should our readers know about your business?
Awkward Games was founded by Brittane Rowe, Jane Lim & Brandon Rhodes during NYC quarantine 2020. Our Flagship tabletop game, Hella Awkward is a unique conversation card game that sparks unforgettable experiences of connection, laughter and fun, one awkward conversation at a time! Our 140 thought provoking question cards are designed to get people talking, laughing, and to help them connect with each other on a deeper level. We believe that diving into awkward conversations can be hella rewarding, and we’re here to help people have more of them.
This year we successfully launched at Target stores nationwide! It was a major accomplishment for us and we’re most proud of the positive impact that Hella Awkward has had on people’s lives. We’ve heard so many stories from folks who have shared how our game has helped them connect with their friends, family, and partners in new and meaningful ways. Growing up, these types of conversations weren’t had in our communities. As a Black, Asian, Woman, Immigrant & Family owned business we feel the responsibility to succeed and create a pathway for others like us to start businesses of their own.
We’re also excited about the future of Hella Awkward. We have plans to expand our product line, adding on new expansion packs to our awkward lineup. We even have a brand new competitive game in the works to reach more people with our message of connection and joy.
We want the world to know that Hella Awkward is more than just a game. It’s a movement. We’re here to make the world a more connected place, one awkward conversation at a time!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
NYC has so many incredible spots to check out! I’d say grab coffee at Double Dutch in Harlem then head down to Central Park for a stroll. Have brunch at Amor Cubano before catching a matinee of Fat Ham on Broadway. Make your way to soho for shopping, then dinner at Thai Diner or Fish Cheeks and dance the night away at House of Yes in Brooklyn!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to shoutout my co-founders who also happen to be my brother Brandon and his girlfriend Jane. I’ve learned so much from them and am so grateful we’ve been able to build this company together. It’s been an honor watching their relationship grow and expand. It can be a gamble to go into business with family, but for us, the risk was certainly worth it. We were so intentional about building our company from a place of love and respect. Those feelings continue to resonate within our dynamic and our customers can feel it too!
