We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Cheng and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe that the key to success in my line of work is establishing meaningful and collaborative relationships. Parents who deal with feeding challenges are stressed, worn out, and left feeling helpless. I’ve been there. It’s defeating. I truly believe that if we approach families with empathy, listen to their concerns, and validate their feelings, we can help them preserver through one of the hardest challenges in parenthood. Rather than treating them just like another case, I take the time to get to know them, their child, and their goals. When I support a family, I make sure that they know that they are the key to their child’s success. They are the expert of their child and I am an expert in my field as an occupational therapist and feeding therapist. We need both pieces to succeed. My sessions are a collaborative effort in which I coach, parents learn, and parents carry out therapy so that they can go home feeling empowered and proud of what they’ve accomplished.
Feeding is an intricate process that intertwines many systems; thus, it can require several specialists to meet a child’s feeding and developmental needs. I treasure the relationships that I’ve established with other providers that I truly trust, respect, and enjoy working with. Having these relationships and working collaboratively to support a child amplifies our impact exponentially. When we are aligned in our goals, families can feel at ease.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend visiting from out of town, we would definitely take a trip to the beach! After soaking in the sun we would go to Disneyland because let’s be honest…It’s the happiest place on Earth! haha
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
