We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany McCarthy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
My daughter and I love to color together. Every time we walk into a store she says ” mommy can we color” meaning that I must buy a coloring book. I myself as a child love to color. But, I notice i did not see any coloring books with little black faces on it. I want my daughter to feel and know that it is normal to see different color skin people working together. This sparked the idea of creating a coloring book where children can learn but also feel included when they see the cover.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Currently, I have two business that I am running myself. 1. “Look What I can Do” , which is coloring book series for children.
” Look What I Can Do” coloring book series is sold on Amazon. I am so proud to have Amazon to help me promote and develop my book. My book features all types of children with different skin colors. The fun fact that set us aside from other coloring books is that our coloring books is also a workbook for children. Each page a child can learn a new word to help develop with reading. Not only can children have fun coloring, but also learning. The challenging part was to create an idea that set this coloring book aside from other coloring books. That for mw was to incorporate the education part of it.

2. Be Lashed by Miss B. which is online eyelash company .
My online eyelash company has over 10 different styles of lashes. What makes this unique is the fact I names each eyelash under women I love and admire. I actually wore each last design for 2 weeks per lash before I even sold them on my site. I took time to research and wear my lashes myself. The challenging part for me is creating a user friendly website. My website is simple and straight to the point. So far my delivery time has been 3-5 days. I am working on bettering my delivery performance but I am so excited each customer has lover their product. The goal is to help all women especially moms feel beautiful not only on the outside but the inside as well.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
On a week long trip it will include beaches, drinks, brunches, dinner parties, day parties, wine tasting, workouts, meditation and art work. My perfect day would be a great outside work out, follow by yoga. Then a good Caribbean brunch spot follow by wine tasting outside. Spend the evening in a museum filled with beautiful art work. End the night on rooftop watching the stars and having great conversation. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I will like to shout out family and friends who continuously support us. Most of our sales this year where from people we actually known. I was very surprise because in business your realize almost 90% of your sales are from strangers. Currently, are books are being sold all over the world on Amazon.
